Just had my first fitting. Amazing experience, and one club I did NOT expect

What shaft on the Mizunos?

Nippon NS Pro 950 NEO, stiff flex.

@Reid
I think I tried 3-4 different shafts. My swing speed was a little too high for the regular flex (and is getting faster as I improve), so we went with stiff. I think I tried 2 different stiff shafts and did not see a lot of performance difference between them. We definitely didn’t do a super deep dive into shafts, but I think what we settled on was working well.

I have the same shaft in my set of JPX 921 forged. Love the shaft, but if you do continue to gain speed, you may find that with your 9-GW that you spin the ball too much.

You’ll be a 24 hdcp in no time.

Probably slip to 26 to be perfectly honest.

Hey, just wanted to ask a question or two about your overall experience. A lot of what you described fits me perfectly. I am a 24 HCP, I also barely touch my woods and struggle with driver consistency. Also seem to be the same height.

Anyway, does a fitting usually cost money? You seemed to be planning to buy the full set of recommendations. Is there pressure to buy the clubs they recommend?

I’m curious about getting fitted, but not necessarily ready to drop money on a bunch of new stuff. I’d be interested more in maybe going Callaway Pre-Owned or buying them a little at a time, but using the intel I get from the fitting.

Just curious what you felt from the experience, though you may not have really dealt with that since you clearly bought all the clubs.

@Fay
Based on my experience with fittings, they usually cost in the 50-100 euros range (I’m in Europe) - but the price of the fitting is usually discounted from the total price of your order once that’s done. However, I never felt any pressure to actually buy the clubs at the fitter’s shop. Once you get fitted, it’s up to you. Obviously, it’s slightly easier to just order with them since the pro has all your info & measurements and can just order your stuff right away with whichever brands you went with.

Sorry for the basic question but what’s the difference between a G430 3 hybrid and a G430 3 wood?

Update: just googled this - I had no idea the 3 wood and the 3 hybrid were different.

Yeah, in theory there should be a yardage difference for me somewhere around 15y. We will see how that actually plays out. I’ll be honest, the 3H was the club I was least sure I needed. But in theory, it fills out the gap. We’ll see how much I use it.

@Hadi
I have the G430 3 wood and it’s excellent. The longest I’ve hit with it is 270, and the average is probably 230.

I haven’t gotten a fitting yet and probably won’t ’til I break 90. I have irons, a 3 wood, and a putter, and I’m hitting mid 90s consistently. I’ve wanted to buy other clubs but struggled to see where I’d play them, with the exception of a driver, but I don’t want to drop $500 on a solid driver just yet.

So a 4H for me would likely fill the gap between 5 iron and 3 wood… but I’m not sure where the 3H would fit into my set or into my game.

I would like to get fitted at some point, though, and appreciate you sharing your experience. Very helpful.

@Dane
Try to find a 5w. I go pw-6, 5h, 5w, 3w, and driver. The only annoying gap sometimes is between 5h and 5w, where a 4h would sneak in nicely, but I’m willing to have that gap in exchange for an extra wedge.

@Hadi
It’s about the landing for me between the two. Probably nearly the same carry, but if I need the ball to stop around 210 yards, I take the 3h; if I want a roll, it’s 3w.

What was your out-the-door cost? Would love to do a full splurge someday.

Just under 2600 out the door.

A great fitting! Play well and enjoy your shiny new clubs.

Thanks!

If you have a swing that suits the Qi10 LS & not the Max, get ur ass on tour, lmao! Congratulations on your new toys!!!

Doesn’t make any sense, lmao, as I was definitely not a good fit for any other club in that category. All of my other clubs are firmly in the game improvement/high handicap category. Then just a Qi10 LS out of nowhere, haha.

@Hadi
Do you happen to spin the ball a lot for your driver? The LS’s purpose is to reduce spin by a wide margin.
