Just had my first fitting. Amazing experience, and one club I did NOT expect

@SarahPutter
Idk man, +25 could be due to a multitude of reasons. Never a bad idea to get fitted, but it is true that the caveat is that if you don’t have a consistent swing yet, what fits you now may not work in a year.

@Wei
Hmm, similar heights. Let me know what shaft length they set you up with.

I’m 5’9" and apprenticed under a professional that fit Dr. J. He’d been “fit” with shafts 2" longer than standard and he’d never broken 100 in many years of trying.

Dr. J is about a foot taller than me and our ideal club lengths are exactly the same, mine 3 degrees flat, his 10 degrees upright. He played to a 12 hdcp one year after we fit him.

You should get it out of your head that height has anything at all to do with which shaft length you should play, because it doesn’t.

I am 6’6” and play +1/4” and up 2 degrees. It’s not just about height, but where things line up at address.

I’m interested in the choice of 2 hybrids.

You hit 7i 170 and went down to a 5 with relatively strong lofted clubs. Seems strange to grab a hybrid that’s going 190?

I probably would have gone 5 iron, then maybe a 2 hybrid or 5 wood then driver.

I’m a 3 handicap and go 5i, 7 wood, 3 wood. Although for the amount I hit my 3 wood, it wouldn’t hurt my game to not have it at all, lol.

@Ronald
I’ll be honest, I was a little confused on the gapping as well and basically just kind of trusted the guy. I see what you’re saying though. Maybe we should have skipped the 4H at least.

That said, I should correct that the 170 7i was really good strikes, my average was a bit lower. So that helps a bit, but your question still stands. I think the logic was:

7i 160-170
6i 170-180
5i 180-190
4h 190-200
3h 200-210
3w 210-220
D ~ 230-260.

@Hadi
Makes slightly more sense I guess. And it’s done now anyway, lol.

I personally probably would not have bothered with the 5i/4hi (depending on your confidence, I absolutely suck ass with hybrids. So I stick to irons, lol), then I also wouldn’t have bothered with the 3 wood.

Honestly, I reckon so many golfers sleep on the 7 wood. Favourite club in the bag! Especially if you play in areas where it doesn’t usually get too windy.

@Ronald
You’re probably right, tbh. I’m not sure I need both of those. In fairness, I hit both the 4H and the 3W better than I’d ever hit any wood/hybrid before. But as you said, what’s done is done, haha. Once I start playing with them, I’m sure I’ll start to discover any gapping issues. If I need to replace a club here or there and take the hit, that’s what I’ll do.

@Hadi
Yeah on course you’re probably not going to play 7i at 170, especially if it’s all carry. You’ll probably play your 5i at 170-180 and the hybrids from there. And least that’s kind of been my experience but I always play for hitting a mid shot and if it goes long then oh well, but on course I rarely have stock distances. There’s always elevation, wind, and hazards to consider.

So you’re telling me he didn’t fit you into an ENTIRE BAG OF PXGs?!?!?!

What is he, stupid?

This is my only major issue with PXG. You can’t compare their equipment side by side with the other brands.

@Cameron
Or with any vendor fitting really.

Yeah, to me vendor fittings are glorified demos. I wouldn’t ever purchase based off those fittings. It never hurts to test a brand product out free though.

@Cameron
Yeah, I did a mini driver fit with Taylor Made but couldn’t get shaft and flight dialed, so I didn’t end up purchasing.

@Cameron
I used the PXG $25 iron fitting to get the best shaft for me and then built Maltby, lol.

I don’t think that’s going to be 100% accurate, but probably much closer than randomly selecting a shaft.

@Cameron
You get what you pay for, I guess. $25 vs $200+ experience is gonna be way different.

@Cameron
I’m pretty sure Club Champion has PXG irons that you could get fit into?

Interesting, I didn’t know that.

Lmaooo tbf I did like the PXG fitting and the irons felt good but I don’t pull the trigger.
