I’m interested in hearing what advice has really helped you improve your game among all the tips out there.
For me, the best advice came from my instructor who showed me how to throw my body towards the target and through the ball with every hit. This simple change made my shots about 70% more accurate, as long as I remember to do it

Focus on just one thing for each swing. Overthinking messes up your flow

My one thought is the beer I have in my bag

One eye on the green
One eye on the pub

My first thought is always to use a 5 wood off the fairway. After hitting that shot, my next thought is usually where did my ball go

Always take one extra club for approach shots. I hit way more greens this way

Many high handicappers think that because they hit their 8 iron 180 yards one time, they’ll do it every time.
But really, most common mistake is coming up short. Club up, swing at 80%, and make sure to hit the ball squarely

Exactly. I’ve dropped down to single digits now, but I’m still not a great ball striker. If I miss long once per round, I make up for it with the extra greens and closer chips I get by clubbing up.
Honestly, for many golfers, it’s an ego thing

I get that. I really struggle to club up. I think it’s the times when I hit the perfect shot and it goes flying that stick with me. I remember those bad breaks for days. It’s frustrating considering I hit my best ball and ended up in trouble. Usually, I forget the mishits that land short before I even finish the round. Maybe it’s because I feel I deserve those bad outcomes

I think it’s hard to estimate carry distance, so many rely on the total distance, which leads to coming up short often.
Also, most golfers don’t realize how much wind can affect their distance

Create a pre-shot routine and stick to it… and maintain your tempo

A friend told me just aim to two-putt every hole. You probably won’t make that 20-footer, so focus on getting it close

This is definitely the one! Padraig Harrington mentioned it to Peter Finch, and it was a lightbulb moment for me

I laugh off even the worst breaks these days. It really helps with consistency and bouncing back

Slow down and take it easy. Be like a goldfish and forget about that last shot
