US players to be paid £400k for playing in Ryder Cup

Who does this hurt?

Pride.

I really don’t have strong feelings on the players getting paid as I can’t pretend to care about money I’ll never see, but I do think the European team will use this as extra motivation based on some of their comments.

If the US shows up flat next year, it will just be even more embarrassing.

Quite a few major international football teams’ players donate their appearance fees to charity—I would assume because they are already multimillionaires from their club wages and because they realize what an immense privilege it is to be selected to represent your country on the international stage.

It’s interesting US golfers seem to have a different viewpoint.

They should only get the money if they win.

Free PR to whoever takes the 400k and donates it to junior programs around Bethpage/their home country.

This is pathetic. The most pathetic of pathetic. To qualify, you’ve probably won a lot of money already in the two years prior (and before that). Why would the players need this cash that week? There is no other event they would go play in that week.

The only compelling reason would be if they start taking it more seriously (especially from the American side).

Europe is already 1 up for Bethpage.

ie: the cost of a handful of executive suite tickets.

David Duval took an unfair amount of hate for this and ended up being right.

Only stupid Americans would want money to play the Ryder Cup, jeez. Xander, Patrick, Bryson tools.

Pathetic.

Do they also get travel costs paid as well, or do those come out of their own pocket?

Any reason they are paying them in monopoly money?

Luigi?

Everyone arguing that players shouldn’t get paid are the kind of people that would side with ownership and management in a labor dispute. They’d probably welcome scabs so that the poor owners could keep their profit margins up.

What’s joke, give to charity. Almost everyone on those teams wishes for more than 75 million dollars. And they are upset by a few dollars.

It’s a start.

Patrick?

I think if there is one thing that elite pro golfers need, it’s more money. They are really struggling.

Damn, everyone getting paid.

If I were playing for a club-level Ultimate Frisbee team at college, I’d ask for a stipend.
