Think I'm in Trouble... I Played Well for the First Time

Went golfing with a buddy the other day, and I played the best I’ve ever played. I’ve never taken the game too seriously since I don’t practice and just enjoy it. But something clicked with my swing. I remembered everything I was supposed to do. I straightened my back, kept my head down, and threw the pocket. It all just came together. I drove 270 yards on one hole and averaged around 230-240 on all 18. Fifteen of my drives were straight as an arrow, and my chips were better than they’ve ever been! My putting stayed the same; I can read a green decently and get an okay line, but my swings were the best of my life. I actually broke 100 legitimately for the first time, and now I want to go again to see if it was just a fluke. Is this how it starts?

It’s like crack. First hit was free! Now, pay the man.

Nothing beats the rush of a perfect golf shot. You’re hooked now. RIP.

Exactly how it feels. That 270 drive was unbelievable.

Playing great is both the best and worst thing ever. It’s amazing when you’re doing it, but now you have expectations because you know you can do it. It becomes way more frustrating when you can’t seem to do it again. Golf! Welcome to the club.

@Linden
That is exactly how it feels. Lol. Thanks!

Welcome to the tour. Sounds like you need a new putter, a GPS golf watch, and a big pack of balls right away.

You’re in. Embrace it.

Dang it! :joy:

I play my best when I probably should be doing something else.

Just remember it’s supposed to be fun. Even when you mess up, take your lumps, get out of trouble, finish the hole, and keep playing. Every round I miss putts that should be easy and make shots that I have no business making.

@Lane
Love that advice.

Prepare for a life of unending misery. You are hooked.

It’s okay if you keep shooting over 100 for a while and embrace the challenge. When I broke 100 for the first few times, I thought I would never shoot over 100 again. Then I broke 90, then 80. Then I hit a slump and had rounds where I shot 103 and had a crisis lol. I figured it out and now I’m back to high 70s to mid 80s. I learned to stop expecting scores. When you go back out there, don’t expect any score. Just play your best like you did this round. Learn from each round and improve little by little, and next thing you know, you’ll break 90.

@Eden
Great advice, thank you. :pray:t2:

Having a round where you don’t hit the ball poorly would make the game a lot more fun. That’s why practicing a little makes it worthwhile. If you don’t practice, your next round might be 130.

That’s exactly how it begins haha, welcome to the club!
