That explains it! I was 150 out with a pitching wedge in the rough and bombed it well over the green. I’m a driving range-trained golfer so I know very little of these tricks.
Identifying a flyer lie is a skill in and of itself. Not always easy. Club selection is a very very important part of golf that often gets overlooked. You can have the best swing in the world, but if you’re not making good decisions out there, you’re gonna have a rough day.

Noted and understood, the more ya know!

Holy Shit,
Couple grooves high.

High on the face=fat.
High on face=fat=early.

Hitting it fat usually means you hit the ground before the ball. (Not saying you did that here.)
If you hit ground before ball, obviously your club head was at too low of an elevation.
If your club head is too low, then the ball will strike it on a higher part of the face.

You want to be 35y over every green? Your funeral I guess.
@Westley
Wait, wouldn’t a fat shot be short of the green? A thin would be 35 over the green.
Edit: Reread OPs post didn’t realize it was a flyer lie. If this was fairway it would have been short, correct?
