Purest Shot of My Life

188-yard par three with bunkers short-sided. I decided to grab a 6-iron from the bag to ensure I could take all hazards out of play. With more than enough club, I just wanted an easy swing and good contact. To my surprise, I hit the purest shot of my life—it almost felt like the ball wasn’t even there. The sound of contact was the only reason I knew I hit it. That immense joy was quickly fleeting as I watched this perfect shot sail 35 yards over the green. Golf is a beautiful game…

How exactly does one get that much grass between the ball and the face on a tee shot on a par 3?

He also hit a 223 yard 6 iron! :t_rex:

That’s if the pin was on the back edge of the green. His 188 + pin to edge + 35 is what his ‘distance’ was.

I would almost bet that OP was looking at the measurement for the tips and was playing the red tees to get this kind of distance with a 6 iron.

A 6 is just an upside down 3.

Only one answer really, man doesn’t wash his balls.

Except the par 3 part, OP is exactly describing a flyer shot from rough. So I’ll assume he’s playing at a muni course with two grass on the tees. Which is also crazy. The very top of that ball mark has grass stuck to the face!

Idk about you, but there isn’t a lot of rough on the tee boxes where I play (OP stated this was on a par 3).

By striking down on the ball and compressing it into the turf.

If you hit ball first like you’re supposed to, there would be no grass between the club and the ball. My guess is he has positive attack angle and caught his first flyer out of the rough. Probably felt great though.

Edit: Reading is cool, sounds like he hit turf first off the tee, not sure how he managed to get that result, but hey :man_shrugging:.

@Micah
I have had grass be as tall as the back of the ball before. So a pure strike could be had while the grass print being there.

We generally call that the rough.

Right😂 but I’m just saying that’s prolly what happened here.

I hope you know that the ball doesn’t actually get compressed against the turf, right?

Exactly, also looks like mud on mid face, which would be very fat.
