PGA West Mountain Course feels like golfing in a video game dream

Is this the Pete Dye La Quinta course? It’s one of my favorites around here

There are 3 courses at PGA West called Pete Dye Something, which are the Mountain, Dunes, and Stadium courses. The official name of this one is PGA West Pete Dye Mountain Course, quite a mouthful

@Ming
It used to be the Pete Dye La Quinta until PGA West bought it about five or six years ago

How much did it cost for a round?

We played in April 2023 for about $150. We just booked it again for April this year and got a 2PM weekday tee time for $105

You think you can finish 18 holes starting that late in Palm Springs that time of year?

@letsplay
The almanac says sunset that week is at 7:45 PM, so we should be good

Does that take the mountain shadow into account? I know further out towards I-10 you get more sunlight, but near the mountains it goes away really quick. Hope you get to finish your round

@letsplay

@Rowan
Yeah, the sun goes down fast by those mountains. Not sure you can get closer to the mountains than that course either lol

For reference, I played this course in December 2024. A 10 AM tee time was $234

Yes! I played it last spring. It was 70 degrees with snow-capped mountains in the background. Second best course I’ve ever played; the best is Saguaro in Arizona. Pro tip: CostcoTravel had a great deal on lodging at La Quinta Resort. It even came with a car, but we drove in from Arizona

@Thames
La Quinta Resort is amazing. The hotel, the courses, the restaurants, shops, and the spa. Plus they have tennis if you’re into that

Incredible

Is that guy in the pink shirt golfing in spandex?

Where are the trees?

They’re small and spiky. The locals call them cacti

Oh wow, as someone whose home course is lined with trees and mostly flat, this is wild. It looks hot, dry, and absolutely stunning. Can’t wait for May
