The only people who wanted Cink to win were his family.

When he was on late night, they did ten facts or whatever, and his last one was even I was rooting for Tom Watson lol.

Cink talked about how he put BBQ sauce in the Claret Jug, so for that reason, I was happy to see his career go in a tailspin. I like BBQ sauce as much as anyone but not in the Claret Jug.
@Emerson
Like to drink out of? That’s bizarre. Weirdo.

Probably to dip out of.

Even then, his wife was probably like ehhhhh 50/50.

I gotta fucking come back here till he’s 60 now!
I agree! It could’ve been one of the greatest championship stories across all sports. Sadly, it didn’t happen.

I felt bad for Watson and for Cink. Nobody was rooting for him. He became the villain when he was just trying to win the tournament like everyone else.

If there was ever a life lesson of shit happens, it was that last hole.
His approach on the 72nd hole was struck perfectly but hit a tiny downslope. On another day, it lands a few feet past and he has two putts from 20 feet for the Open. Just one of those painful moments that no matter how many times you watch it, it doesn’t get easier.
@Sage
It really doesn’t. Someone brought it up in a post about Nicklaus and it rekindled the memory. It was so out of the blue to see Watson competing. Kept waiting for him to fall apart and lo and behold he had a one shot lead going to 18. He would have broken the record for oldest to win a Major by 10 years. Major ughs.
@Parrish
The iron shot into 18 was just hit too well. Adrenaline and perfect contact…5 yards too far. The putt seemed impossible. I grew up with Watson being that guy who got the yips and disappeared. I hope one of the 55+ crowd pulls it off someday.
@Spencer
The idea of Cink coming back in a role reversal and winning a major this year would be the most amazing golf story I can think of.
@Spencer
Els only gets into the Open nowadays though, correct? Mickelson seems to have a real shot (turns 55 this year) at Augusta; his window could last until 60 if he catches lightning in a bottle.

If it’s going to happen anywhere, it’s going to be Augusta. Course knowledge is the great equalizer. I honestly believe that when Tiger can physically do 72 holes, he will win one more at Augusta before hanging it up.
@TeeTimeTalk
I don’t think Tiger will be physically right long enough to get back to that level, but it would be amazing.

I think he has a 3-5 year window where he gets stronger and finds a little something one of those weeks. He wants the oldest major winner so he can take it away from Phil.
@Spencer
Watson most definitely had the short putt yips.
