I guess it depends on your distance+gapping. For me the 9w pretty much is on par with what I’d get with a 5i (185ish). If I was hitting upper 190s with the 9w I wouldn’t need it - that’s what the Honma’s for.

Hybrids replace their respective iron. So a 5 hybrid would replace your 5 iron if you don’t hit it well (this is me, 2-5h). This is in reference to a fairway wood.

I would say that’s true if you play strong lofted irons. For my more traditional lofted irons, a 4 and 5 hybrid replace a 3 and 4 iron.
I always hit my 5W really well. Don’t know why I took so long messing around with long irons and different hybrids that I never hit well. This year I finally got a 7W and pulled the 4i out of the bag. It went so well I got a 9W and pulled the 5i out of the bag. Just in the past couple of weeks I went ahead and got an 11W and pulled the 6i out of the bag. I’m confident with everything from 7i through wedges, but adding nothing but fairway woods for anything longer has been a huge boost in confidence for my long game.

I’m happy with my 5/6 irons, but I am super curious what an 11w would even be like. I bag a 19° UW, which is kind of like a fat-headed hybrid with a slightly longer than hybrid length shaft, maybe similar ballpark just with more loft?
Just bought the 7 wood. It’s a game changer.

No you have to play a tiger woods blade 5 iron or you’re a hack.
Best equipment move I ever made in 25+ years of golf was ditching my 5-iron in favor of a Ping 9-wood.
