Found this at the club I work at

I discovered this tucked away in the attic of the garage at the golf course where I’ve been working for eight years. The poor thing must have spent most of its life up there, but I’m excited to finally give it a try next season.

It was one of the first forays into big perimeter weighting in a putter. Looks weird but they worked fine.

This is a Scotty Cameron Futura from 2003. I actually found one of these at a garage sale in pristine condition for $20 and flipped on Craigslist for $120 a year ago. It was hardly one of the first forays into big perimeter weighting, Karsten Solheim at Ping had a few more extreme perimeter weighted prototype examples in the 1960s.

@Miller
Wasn’t the first overall, but it was the first that had mainstream hype.

My buddy got one and he swore it would shave at least two strokes off his scores. He traded it in six months later.

Ah, a tale as old as time.

These things are erm… odd looking, but surprisingly decent if you’re putting on fast greens and you have the push-pulls. A good “back to basics” putter if your stroke is fucked up. They also make a tinny sound when you hit the ball, probably because they’re made out of milled aluminum.

A great example of function over form!

I use one of these, they’re old but putt great and makes a really unique sound when you hit the ball. Enjoy!

I have one as well and agree with the sound it makes.

Been gaming one for 15 years and every time I play with someone new they comment on the sound.

can confirm. hung onto my grandpas after he passed. its got that ping sound to it a bit!

I love mine. Yes, odd looking, but if it works, then it works.

I had a putter like that and when you hit it on the sweet spot it would made a loud ping noise that people noticed lol

My dad has used one of these for a long time. PLINK

This is worth 100 to 150. I know you didn’t ask, but I figured I would give the info.

Yeah I looked into it a bit and that’s not bad but I’ll keep it just because of how weird it looks and if I like it will use it as my main putter. But it’s crazy the stuff people will forget about like it’s nothing.

Doesn’t SC offer restoration of old putters?

Really? That would be cool I love giving a second life to vintage stuff.

They do, it’s not cheap though I think it’s like 2-300.

@Hale
Restorations start at $325 at the Scotty Cameron Custom Shop and it looks like they might not even do it for this model. You might be able to get it restored for less somewhere else but would still be looking at around at least $200 once you factor in shipping.

For something like this it’s not really worth it unless the putter had personal sentimental value.

OG Futura putters aren’t highly sought after and don’t sell for a ton, usually under $200 though a few go for more than that here and there.

@Hale
Ehhhh maybe in the future I’ll rock the hard life look it’s got for now.
