Do you also use broken tees

My golf friends tease me, but I only use an unbroken tee with my driver. For all my other shots, including 3 wood, I grab broken tees I find on the tee box, just enough to keep the ball off the ground. Am I the odd one here? I get frustrated when I can’t find a broken tee.

Absolutely normal. If I find a good one, it goes in my pocket. My only golf superstition is to use only tees that are completely broken in half. If one still has the bottom part connected, I won’t use it. This might come from the time I tried to snap the bottom off a broken tee. It slipped, and I stabbed my finger deeply enough to need a band-aid. Never again!

On all par 3s, I look for a broken tee to reuse.

To this day, I still don’t understand who’s out there buying tees. Hats off to those folks, from the rest of us regular players.

I use longer plastic tees so mine don’t break very often. I don’t look for broken ones. If the courses you play have them, check the range. They usually have plenty.

Pink broken tees only on the par 3s.

My father-in-law, who has passed, was a golf purist. He shaped much of my game. Never use a tee you find, always a new white tee. While I find it funny, I can’t help but use a new white tee on every drive.

As silly as it sounds, one of the worst splinters I ever got was from a broken tee. Right in my thumb. Like 10 little splinters. So be careful with that.

Don’t buy tees; there are so many plastic and wooden tees people leave on the tee boxes. I’m shocked at how many I collect every time I play; it’s overwhelming the pocket where I keep my tees.

Kind of, you can get plastic tees that last 10 or more rounds. If you are looking for a tee ahead of time, that’s a bit crazy; afterward, it makes sense.

I mainly do this because the full size one I have is plastic and has lasted me forever. I don’t like having to dig out a full tee when a broken nub will do just fine.

I haven’t bought or used a new tee in over a decade.

That’s totally normal. Sometimes I’ll grab a broken one off a driver hole if I know a par 3 or 3 wood hole is coming up.

Are there really people who don’t do this?

Right? That was my thought too.

I do the exact same thing. Some courses where my parents live even have little boxes next to the tee markers just for broken tees. So you don’t even have to search; there are usually a few in the boxes already. I assume because of that, this isn’t an unusual practice to use broken tees on par 3s and short par 4s.

You and I are alike.

Nobody I know uses a full tee with anything but the driver unless they can’t find a broken one.

I have a bag for full length tees and a bag for broken or short tees. I usually just grab a few full-size tees and snap the bottoms off because I forget about the short ones.

That’s just how golf is. Anyone who’s played for a while will pick up this habit. Are your friends newer to the sport or just not very good?

I have a pencil sharpener in my bag to sharpen broken tees while I wait. I have so many little tees in my bag.
