When I play with someone who consistently hits the green in regulation from over 150 yards, that’s impressive. Anyone can hit a long drive or make a long putt sometimes, but hitting irons well from that distance shows real skill.
When you ask, ‘Are you good at golf?’ and they say, ‘I’m okay’ or ‘I just like to play.’

I have mixed feelings about those players. If I were that good, I’d say, ‘Watch this’ before every shot.

I say ‘watch this’ because I’m not great and have no idea where my shot will go.

Exactly. There’s a big difference between ‘watch this’ and ‘watch out for this.’

To me, it’s about consistent ball striking and confidence. They know how to shape their shots and hit par 3 greens consistently.

Please, watch this.

I need people to keep an eye on my ball because I never know if I’ll top, hook, slice, or shank it. Keeps everyone on their toes.

More like ‘can someone watch this.’

I like to start my shots with ‘you ready to see something silly?’ and then take a risky shot. Most of the time, it works.

For tough shots, I say to my partner, ‘You like golf? Watch this.’

I say, ‘Prepare to be amazed.’

It’s funnier when someone who isn’t great does it all the time.

I prefer to say ‘here’s a free lesson.’

That’s what I say, but I mean it. My handicap is between 10 and 15 depending on how much I play.

Then they show up, don’t warm up, and shoot an 80 while seeming relaxed.

You check his bag and see old clubs with wear spots and a 7 wood. You might as well hand him your money.

The towel on their bag can be telling. A small towel clipped to the side? Weekend golfer. A bath towel from a hotel? That guy played college golf.
I was going to mention the towel too, but lots of casual golfers have towels. It’s the one who carries it around with them.

Towel matters. Is it from a PGA training course? Hanging from their belt? One wet, one dry? Those signs suggest not to play for money.

Why do they use a loose towel instead of a clipped one?
