Why does America have to put a price on absolutely everything.
Because when people do work, they should get paid.
Why don’t Ryder Cup workers get paid? The ‘volunteers’ even have to pay to work.

@Noor
From the swag bags and free tickets and perks occasionally posted about here, the whole volunteering for PGA events seems like a pretty decent gig TBH, even if there is a fee.

Swag bags? Two shirts, one hat, two tickets, and a parking pass?

Sometimes people do work and don’t get paid.
They are what we call ‘volunteers.’
Volunteers often do this work because they believe that some things are more important than money and that some things are so special and important that they are worth their time, effort, and attention.
You will often find that volunteers are in a stable financial position themselves and believe that their act of volunteering feeds into a concept of ‘The greater good’ and has a wider knock-on effect of inspiration in society.
This concept of ‘volunteer thinking’ seems to contravene the new age ‘American Dream’ way of thinking, which focuses solely on profit and f*cking people over at every opportunity.
Personally, I find the new-age ‘American Dream’ quite sad, but I guess the S&P is doing great so everyone there is happy.

And then you get bent over by corporations and everyone else profiting off your work. But hey at least you can look down on people from your high horse, I guess.

Exactly. If the company is making money, so should the employees.
Especially, as is the case here, when the talent of the employees is the entire reason that anyone is making money at all.
With $700 tickets, sponsorships, and broadcasting deals, I bet the players are getting like 5% of revenue. If that.
@Nile
They are independent contractors.
Doesn’t change his point.
Then you don’t understand independent contractors.

I only employ about 150 of them but please tell me more.
@Phoenix
Then they’re employees. Just kidding, I had to.
@Phoenix
Independent contractor (self-employed) or employee? | Internal Revenue Service I’ll let the IRS do it. Jag.

This comment is empty, admin should fix.
Sure. Still applies.
If anything the players should get more as independent contractors since they aren’t receiving benefits or payroll tax payments made on their behalf.

Hey, I’m just a guy with an opinion that enjoys volunteering where I can and doesn’t feel like ‘corporations are bending me over’ and that ‘people are profiting off my work.’
Any chance you think the mentality you share has had a negative impact on US society?
@Chen
I don’t really think a group of workers arguing for a commensurate share of the output of their labor is an American thing.

Not talking about factory line workers here though, are we, friend? A little more complex and nuanced when it’s multi-millionaire professional athletes being asked for some time every two years.
@Chen
It’s not more complex. Workers deserve compensation commensurate with the revenue they generate. Full stop.
If they want to donate their proceeds, great.

This is why Americans will never have free healthcare.

Looks like you’re Canadian. My healthcare improved drastically after I moved to the US.
