It’s hard to “integrate” online.

Or at the least large “tamper” stickers on both ends

Who is risking theft charges to save $20? You might as well just steal it, its the same thing either way if you get caught and it will save you twice as much.

To be honest. Target wouldn’t bother to prosecute. They will just keep a log in videos. If the guy keeps stealing then they will accumulate all the instances of theft and wait till its a felony theft charge. At which case target will proceed to seek and file charges. You can steal from target no problem but you better not go over a grand! At least thats what my mother that works at target says there policy is. I could be wrong

@Ripley
As an ex store manager, your mother is mostly correct. Generally they prefer to monitor you until you’ve broken the felony threshold and then persue charges, but if the AP leader either needs more apprehensions for the month to improve their metrics for the corporate bosses, or it’s someone they’d just prefer to ban from the store and not deal with anymore they’ll do it before it gets to that point.

@Sutton
How do they track when an individuals goes into different targets and takes thing over time. Is it facial recognization?

…and no I am not a thief asking so I can get around it. I’ve heard this before and just wanted to know how they managed it. I can understand how they monitor at self check out with cameras pointed at your face and down at the product but swapping something off the shelf? It seems very difficult to impossible.

@Presley
Some of the sales floor cameras are of a much higher quality then you’d think, and all the different stores AP teams in the local area communicate between one another and share photos/videos to help build cases.

Also you have some very dumb shoplifters who will buy little cheap things when stealing to try and seem less suspicious, if they pay with a card they’ve basically just lead you right to their front door as it’s very easy to identify who is tied to said card once it’s been swiped and is in the system.

@Presley
Not that this fully answers your question but Target operates an elite level forensics lab.

“Aside from stopping shoplifting and helping law enforcement, the Target lab also teaches and supports government agencies. According to the Washington Post, experts at the lab have taken a leading role in teaching government protection agencies about how to use technology to help solve crimes.”

They are 100% not fucking around

@Ripley
I worked at Kohl’s in college and this is exactly how our LP handled theft. They had a video log of people the knew stole. They’d tell us over the walkie every time someone with a track record of stealing came into the store and basically 3-4 would watch them the entire time they were in the store. Once we had proof they stole enough, the LP officer would notify law enforcement.

@Finch
What has the world come to? When I was a bagger at a grocery store the security people were tough SOBs. I watched them tackle a few thieves to the ground.

The thought process part doesn’t come with these actions

@Dax
Can you link the video?

They’re not pressing charging on anyone over this lol

Not really. They just say they found it like that. Target won’t check to see if they are telling the truth, and they’d be scot-free. I worked at target as a cashier and people would change prices on things all the time and even if we caught them our managers would still honor their price. Target doesn’t really care.
