I just posted this, but the pictures didn’t upload—so here it is again.
I was messing around on Google Maps after reading an article about the 16th at Cypress Point being named the best golf hole in the world. While checking out Pine Valley on satellite view, I noticed its Google review score was lower than other private courses I’ve come across. Turns out, a few one-star reviews came from people who mistakenly booked tee times at the wrong “Pine Valley” in Michigan. Unsurprisingly, they didn’t get to play the Pine Valley.
That got me curious about other top courses and their bad reviews. Absolute comedy gold. (“Augusta wouldn’t let me drop into their pro shop to buy Masters gear,” “This course sucked on Tiger Woods PGA 06.”)
@Porter
Don’t forget about reviews from people who attended weddings in the clubhouse Those annoy me because they skew the average rating and don’t reflect the golfing experience
@Porter
That’s common Google used to prompt users to review businesses they were near if they were frequent reviewers Many older folks don’t get it and feel they should rate places they haven’t even been to
@Porter
I know someone who gave a course I love a 1 star review “Never go back!” They got kicked off for bringing outside drinks They were warned too They still got the boot
@Porter
Yes, I’ve seen similar complaints “We just wanted to enjoy our game, but the starter was so rude and treated us like kids because there were five of us sharing a bag NEVER COMING BACK!”
@Porter
Just because a course gets bad reviews on conditions doesn’t mean it’s terrible I’ve seen complaints like “Course is awful They wouldn’t let us take carts out and the ground was squishy” It had just rained for days
Complaints like “Totally unfair The greens were too fast!” are common too Some golfers want slow greens but complain when they are fast Impossible to make everyone happy
Many of the complaints are about things out of the course’s control like fellow golfers not fixing ball marks or driving where they shouldn’t It’s usually negative feedback These days negativity seems to be the norm in comments
The Pine Valley one is interesting The Google page for “Pine Valley” links to the famous NJ course but clicking the website link takes you to a random course in Michigan with the same name Apparently it’s been messed up for months
They took the time to leave a 1 star review but didn’t bother to check that getting into Augusta is basically impossible They seem shocked that one of the most exclusive private courses has gates lol

You can’t even see the course from outside It’s on a busy street in Augusta You can’t see anything at all
