That’s a really fast slice
Do you work on hinging your wrists during the backswing? Sounds silly, but I’m trying to get the club higher by hinging my wrists vertical. Not sure if that’s right.

That was something I thought about when building my swing. Wrist setting is important, try to have the club vertical when your hands are above your waist. Now, it’s more natural for me.
@Leith
I’ve always heard to keep the club wide on the takeaway, but it makes me hook the ball. Thanks for the advice. I hope to swing like you someday, though I should probably work on my short game!
I’m curious - how much do you think wrist movement helps with speed? I’ve heard grasp strength really divides pros from casual golfers.

Having a strong grip is crucial for good iron play. You need to compress the ball against the ground. Wrist movement does add speed, especially during the takeaway and when they release naturally on the downswing.
@Leith
A follow-up - I think of grip strength as squeezing the club harder. This seems to help with acceleration and compression, which I wanted to connect to wrist movement. Do you work on grip strength? How has it affected your speed and performance? Any tips to improve it? Oh, and how do you balance speed with a solid swing?
@Stevie
Grip strength is how pronated or supinated your top hand is on the club. A strong grip means more back of your hand is showing, which stabilizes the clubface. The force you apply while gripping isn’t as important. Being loose and flexible helps generate speed. Grip strength can assist with control, but it isn’t a major factor in the swing. As for balancing speed with good technique, I focus on swinging faster only after a swing change becomes consistent and I’m hitting it straight.
Swinging at 130 isn’t as great as it sounds. I took part in a few long drive contests, but I can’t keep the ball in play. Honestly, I wasn’t that good even before I competed.
You’ve got a nice swing going. Just a couple of unrelated things: your age, swing speed, and personal best.
I’ve tried this a little. It’s vital to keep your arms relaxed. I sometimes practice with a weighted club during tries with a speed radar. My best was 131.
You have so much power in that swing, feeling a bit envious
That’s an impressive move. Hard to believe you can’t break 79, you look like you have everything down. Just need to dial in your wedge game while swinging like that.
