Inheriting and Using Grandfather’s Old Clubs (Ping Zings)

My grandfather passed away earlier this year, and while going through some of his things, I came across his old golf clubs. They look to be in decent condition, though a bit aged. I’m currently using my dad’s old Ben Hogans Radials, which include a 1 Wood and a 3 Wood that are actually made out of wood.

I’m thinking about swapping out most of my clubs for these but wanted to know if it’s a good idea. Are older clubs like these still playable today? Also, how would these compare to modern clubs, especially in terms of performance and feel? Should I restore them, keep them for sentimental value, or try them out on the course?

Keep the wooden clubs forever. I gave mine up when I was 16 to buy a cheap driver, which I later sold for almost nothing. I regret it every spring.

I’d play with those and have a blast. Grandpa was a gamer

Beryllium for the win!

OH man Ping Zings! My first real set of clubs. Let me know if you ever think of selling

I have those Ping Zing’s. Extremely forgiving low irons but the long irons (3&4) are really hard to get good hits with.

Gramps had style no doubt

OMG. Remember square drivers?

A friend and I play what we call ‘dead grandpa golf’ a few times a year. The rule is you have to use the set you inherited, including any balls if they’re still around. It’s a fun challenge, and I like to think it’s what grandpa would have wanted.

I played much crappier Zings when I first really got into playing. They look funky from this angle but look great at address. I’d def swap for em

Solid set, lol. Those Pings would be worth a nice chunk of change if you ever decided to sell them. I’ve been hunting for a good set of copper-finished ones for ages. Also, just looking at that Driver is giving me tinnitus, lol. :pinched_fingers:

Never get rid of those or sell them. Nothing is worth the memory you’ll have from seeing those clubs and maybe even playing his putter
