Golf has brought life back into my Dad

That’s great. Happy to hear you brought joy back into your dad’s life.

I know how it feels. I started golfing again this year after not playing for 15 years. I used to come home and just watch TV or sit outside. Now I think about golfing every day after work or hitting the range. I hope to retire in five years, and when I do, I want to move to a warm climate, get a part-time job at a golf course, and play in my free time.

I’m 62. Even though I have other hobbies, I only do them randomly. I’m a musician, so most of that is on other people’s schedules, not mine.

Last year, I decided to learn golf to play with my bandmates. I’ve only been able to play with them three times since. Now I play on my own, two 18-hole rounds, twice a week. (During winter, I do four rounds a week on a simulator.

@Jaden
I’m now in Aruba, enjoying their 9-hole course.

Hell yeah!

I wish this would happen with my dad…

He suffered a serious head injury back in 2020 and has lost interest in most things since then. He also deals with depression and mood swings.

When we golf together, he struggles a bit on the back nine as he gets tired (he’s 67).

He got LASIK, which has helped, but he just doesn’t enjoy the game like he used to.

There’s a course two minutes from his house, but I can hardly get him to go with me to practice or play :worried:.

Maybe this is the only addiction that can actually be good for you?

This whole thread is just tears, man… I hope to get my dad into golf; it would be something nice to do together.

Good stuff. I hear a lot of people say similar things about disc golf, but he already plays it. Disc golf isn’t as hard as golf or at least not in the same ways. It’s easier to improve and get around the course without feeling challenged. Golf has a much tougher learning curve.
