Some similar ones in better shape are being listed for around $250 but I wouldn’t sell it. Maybe I’ll use it for a round and compare it to the left dash.
If it’s real, it would look great in a display with other old stuff in the clubhouse.

I bet the left dash will fly straighter and longer just a hunch.

I work at a golf course with a hickory stick tournament every year. They use these balls. I have a few in my bag.

It’s my grandfather’s! He was a thrifty Scot who gave up the game when he lost it.

Does the perspective in this image feel off to anyone else? It reminds me of the lamp.

I mean, there are people like me who don’t need a league to bring out the hickories and have a grand time.

Hogwash! Real players swing persimmons.
Lol well unfortunately my set has permission woods because I can’t find any true hickory woods for sale at a decent price that are in playable condition. Too many are just hanging on walls. The best ones I found, the lady wouldn’t take them down.

Title says the ball is from the 20s. You say the course opened in the 60s. I get that you can make up reasons, but I can’t see an early golfer bringing his grandad’s 40-year-old ball to tee off.

Can’t wait to see this on Antique Roadshow where the owners explain it’s a replica.

What material is it made of, I wonder?
Guttie. I’m no golf expert but remembered this from James Burke’s Connections series. The first modern golf balls were made from the rubber-like sap of Gutta-percha trees. If it’s genuine, the time period fits.

Oh I accidentally hit that into the pond yesterday! Please give it back.

Almost looks flat.
It is. It’s a worldwide conspiracy. Everyone knows golf balls are actually flat discs.

If I’m not mistaken, some YouTubers have made videos where they buy these old balls and play with persimmon clubs. I remember them smashing these and other old balls all over the place. Could have been at your course?

It’s a cool find, no matter where it came from. I wouldn’t hit it for fear of damaging it. The story about granddad’s old set is believable, but I think it’s also likely that some kind of free-range golf was played there before it became an actual course.
