While I would love to play Pro-V1s every round, I’m not sure my game really appreciates the finer aspects of a high-end ball (kind of like my wine palette). And my propensity to find water makes them fiscally disadvantageous. What is your gamer ball for under $30, and why did you choose it? (Demerits given for all references to “range balls”).
2 piece ball: Titleist TruFeel
3 piece ball: Legato 3085
The Titleist is a surlyn covered distance ball made in Massachusetts. It’s a low compression ball that’s long off the tee and feels good around the green. It doesn’t spin like a ProV1 but it’s $25 a dozen.
The Legato is a new urethane covered ball (85 compression) that has good spin around the green and is very good off the tee. It’s available on Amazon for $29.95, a very good price for a urethane ball. I’ve been playing this for the past couple of months and I really like it. It took the place of the TruFeel because I like the feel of it off the putter and wedges and for $5 more, you get a urethane ball.
Both balls are durable and don’t scuff easily. One of the problems with mid budget urethane balls like the Vice Pro or Srixon QStar is the covers get dinged up quickly.
These balls are best suited for a medium speed swing under 100 mph. If you have a faster swing, you need a higher compression ball. Good luck with your search.

The Maxfli balls do not translate to my game and I don’t know why. I want to like them but I absolutely do not hit them well.
@Elliot
Great response. Kudos.
@Elliot
I always liked the feel of the QStar but they scratched if you looked at them funny.

Maxfli Tour or Tour X. Can usually find 4 dozen for $100 on sale at Dick’s. If you or you know someone who has kids, get one of the 20% off coupons when sport seasons start up, they’re good for anything in the store. That usually brings them down to $80 total, so $20/dozen. TP5x is my preferred ball, but the Maxfli Tour Xs are DAMN fine balls, and a steal at $20/dozen.
@Peyton
Can you explain the difference between the Tour and Tour X please?

Tour is a 3 piece, X is a 4 piece with a higher compression. Just playing with them in the store and the X felt like a rock. I like the feel of the Tour.

Tour is like the ProV1 and the Tour X is like the ProV1x. Tour X more spiny.
@Valentine
No, on their website right now, you can get them for $28 in bulk.
Edit: Oh shit, this is for 2 dozen. You right!
@Peyton
The X actually spins more than the regular Tour. Check out the MyGolfSpy testing from last summer.

I trust literally nothing MGS does when it comes to testing, they’re shills just like everyone else and their testing process has as many holes as Swiss cheese. The one thing I do give them credit for is exposing off-center balls. They forced Callaway to invest a lot of money refining their process.

X is FIRM. Seriously, firm. I’ve changed to it but have to get used to it. I prefer how it handles on my iron and green. I’m fast enough for it, but on the bottom end. The Tour feels fantastic. If you’re just a bit on the slower side, the Tour is phenomenal. X gave a little more spin off the tee, which isn’t ideal for me. I tend to hit a hair down on the tee. But the spin on irons/wedges are more fitted for me. Get a bit higher launch with the X. Which lets it land a bit softer. Both hold up extremely well.

Vice Pro is the way to go! (depending on your swing speed).

If you look for the 24 pack on Amazon you can usually score a deal for less than $60. So it would meet OP’s requirement.
