Hey everyone, quick question for you all: When you’re out on the course, what’s your usual distance with an 8-iron? Just curious to see how our game compares!
Seriously. And what’s your handicap?
Usually around 145 yards, unless I really want it to go 145, then it magically ends up either 120 or 160. The joys of being a 16 handicap, am I right?
Sounds like you’re describing my game perfectly!
I always thought the reason for clubs having decreased lofts was mainly about technology and aiming for that perfect launch angle. It seems like higher handicappers hitting a club with less loft might achieve the same launch as a low handicap player using a club with more loft. But hey, I could be way off base here!
So basically, it’s a mix of sales hype and actual advancements in club technology. The improvements in club head technology have definitely made lower lofts more necessary. But you know how those sales guys are—they’ll never let a chance to market a new club pass by! And that’s how we ended up with the infamous “A” wedge.
