Which Golf Clubs Are Best for a Tall Beginner Golfer?

I’m a 6’5" male in my 30s and have always struggled with golf, using hand-me-down or basic beginner sets. While I know clubs aren’t crucial for beginners, I’ve noticed that I tend to play better with rental sets than with my own clubs. I recently tried a coworker’s +2” clubs and immediately felt more comfortable. I realize that a fitting would be the best way to determine the right clubs for me, but the thought of spending 90 minutes shanking balls at a fitting session feels daunting, especially given the cost.

I’m considering using my measurements to find a set of used clubs online and then going for a fitting once I’m ready to invest in a long-term set of irons. However, I’m having trouble finding clubs that are +1.5” or +2” with steel shafts and a cavity back. Are there any tall golfers out there who have found a good set or have tips on where to look? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look for clubs with longer shafts and adjustable settings. Brands like Ping, Callaway, and TaylorMade offer models with options for extended lengths. Used clubs can be a good start, and online retailers or second-hand stores might have what you need. A fitting session later on can be a great investment to fine-tune your set.
