I was playing on a really nice course and we had to have someone help us out. For context, I am not a good golfer.
So I hit a perfect drive right down the middle of the path on the first hole. When I got ready for my second shot, the helper thought I was a great player and started telling me where to land the ball on the green. I just laughed and laughed.
He saw what was happening and at the last second said, “just aim for the flag.”
I hit a terrible shot. The ball went screaming and I knew it was going to go way past the flag. But it hit the flag stick in the middle. The ball stopped and was only 3 feet from the hole.

This is what I like about the game. All I need is a few great shots and the rest can be bad but I am happy with the day. I remember those good shots for a week or two until I play again.

Same here. I probably won’t remember my score after a few months, but I will remember a good shot for years.

That is funny. I like a lucky break. Rather be lucky than good.
My mom and dad used to play a lot, but she was never a great golfer. We had some drinks and were about to hit on #17 at Bryan Park, which is a short par 3. Dad and I hit okay shots, but my mom asked how far it was and said “I know what to hit”
She grabbed the driver and he said “THAT IS TOO MUCH CLUB” but she did not care. She hit a drive that smoked the flag and it ended up a few feet from the hole. We laughed and said “RATHER BE LUCKY THAN GOOD!”
That drive would have gone into the practice area if it had not hit the stick. It is a funny game.

My grandma and grandpa used to live on a golf course. He played every day. She did not play often, but she knew the game and was not bad, she just did not care about it.
My grandpa was always upset that she got 3 holes in one and he never got one.
