The Reason I’ve Fallen in Love with This Sport

Tapping in for a 7?

I am more than familiar with that feeling. 7 is a lucky number, right?

Awesome! My dad played for 75 years, much of it with a low single-digit handicap. Not one hole-in-one… enjoy that feeling, my friend!

My dad just told me, ‘Your grandad played for 50 years without one; I’m 30 years and counting… you’ve always been a lucky git.’ I will be enjoying this for a lifetime, without much chance of another, it seems!

Kind of a cruel twist of fate; now you’re going to be chasing that dragon for the rest of your life. I, on the other hand, still get that rush when I get within chipping distance of a green (talking about a par 27, 9-hole as well).

@Cody
I mean we’re all chasing that dragon. He can at least say he’s gotten one.

Congrats, and also this sub has ruined me. I’m two seasons in (20 years after playing regularly as a teen), and due to all these posts on every par 3, I just think, ‘Oh, I’m due for an ace, right? They’re pretty commonplace, right?’, forgetting that there are some pros who’ve never had one. It didn’t help that my 30 handicap friend got one this year.

@Drake
Yeah, I decided the only correct response is to swing by the shop tomorrow and treat myself to a new club - which is hopefully as lucky as the ones I inherited!

Congrats and welcome! You’ll be chasing that high for the rest of your life! I hope you get your fix again soon. One question: How is it possible to hit a 6-iron 100 yards? I honestly can’t even picture a swing that would produce that result.

@Milo
I’m yet to have an actual lesson, so have a lot to work on, but I’m not sure what I do constitutes a swing that is recognizable. Waiting for spring for that, but I don’t swing very hard at all and imagine the contact leaves a lot to be desired. But I still have fun and score pretty nicely for 3 months in.

@Mai
Oh, so you are NEW NEW. Well, congrats buddy. What a way to start your journey!

Super super new! Until today, I’d ‘only’ managed 7 pars and never had a birdie!

A friend gave me a photo of the hole I had my first HIO on. He inscribed it, ‘Men blame fate for other accidents but take personal responsibility for a hole in one.’

That’s fantastic! I’m going to put something similar on it.

Welcome to the best game ever! I hope you’re not discouraged as you try to recover from this. ‘Hard to top’ doesn’t begin to describe…

Ball in hole feel good.

Okay, I’m pretty new to the sub… what does a 3-month-in HIO… from 95m… with a 6i summon the purchase of? I’ve been kinda depressed recently & need the ‘hope’ of some new equipment on the way & the dopamine shot of seeing that box when it arrives!

Sir this is a Wendy’s.

It’s about time you hit what you were aiming for for once.

Seriously, great shot; wish you many more!
