Superstroke Grips Smelling Really Bad, Could They Be Fake?

I bought a Superstroke grip off Amazon at about 30% less than what it would cost at the pro shop. The quality seems fine, but it has a really strong bad smell, even after a couple of weeks on my putter.

Is this normal for Superstroke grips, or did I end up buying a fake?

They do release quite a bit of odor if they’ve been in the packaging for a while. I thought SuperStroke had minimum advertised pricing (MAP) and that authorized resellers weren’t allowed to offer discounts below MSRP, but I could be wrong. In fact, my wife tells me I’m wrong a lot…,

Not sure if they are fake or not but i can tell u that amazon warehouses where stuff is stored is very humid, i got boxing wraps from amazon and they stink like mildew after multiple washes.

I’m thinking if you’re going to buy a counterfeit golf product from China on Amazon, a putter grip is one thing which you can’t go too wrong with.

I’ve bought both real and fake ones. Some fake ones are hard to tell apart, but if you didn’t get it from a golf retailer, it’s probably fake. With the bad fakes, you can rub the grip and pieces of it will come off…they’re junk.

Which pro shop are you going to? I paid $38 for a Super Stroke grip and re-gripping at Golf Galaxy. Super Strokes are going for $29 on Amazon.

Can we get a better pic or video of the smell?

It might be a fake. I’ve bought plenty of “brand name” grips from Amazon, Temu, and Aliexpress. If the grip smells like rubber, it’s likely a real one. But if it has a strong chemical or gas-like smell, it’s definitely a fake.

Did you remember to wash your upper lip?
