My buddy left his range finder twice at a course. Both times I was the one to claim it, he’s lazy.
Then it happened again, at a course that was about 45 mins away. I had to go out to that area for work, so I figured I’d stop in and check. They didn’t have it, but the guy said, “Man, I know losing a range finder sucks. We’ve had some of these for months.”
Then he puts three on the counter and says, “Take your pick.”
Now I have a range finder and my friend has none.
Immediately goes and checks my golf bag even though I haven’t golfed yet this year.

It is possible these have been sitting at the course lost and found for a long time and they were going to get thrown away. Still, why not just give these to the “Regulars” that come in or (1) per employee? Making a profit on these does seem scummy…
Then again, I am pretty sure someone has made a pretty damn good profit on all the balls I have lost on courses over the last few years.
@Denny
People have just re-lost your lost golf balls.

Fair point, I have re-lost many a golf ball that I have found while looking for my own…it’s the golf ball circle of life I guess.
@Denny
I work at a course. If it’s been there long enough and is actually nice someone will eventually take it. If they don’t it’s just going to continue to sit there. I lost a club a year and a half ago. Got a job at that course, saw my club in the bin of lost clubs. It’s still in the bin.
@Denny
I worked in a pro shop in my younger days. We had brand new wedges, 7i, woods, putters, 100 head covers, range finders, you name it. People never claimed em or even asked.
@Denny
Where’s the first place a golfer would check if they lost their range finder?

Ohh, absolutely agree, lost and found is where I have found my head covers and wedges I have “misplaced”. I am hoping that these are the items that have sat there for 6 months plus honestly.

Easy for course employees to steal still. Could’ve dropped it anywhere on the course and someone from another group could’ve snatched it up.

As someone who works a pro shop, I have 6 of them sitting on a shelf next to my desk right now next to a pile of Bluetooth speakers. People leave them on the carts and just never come back for them. I laser engraved my name and phone number into mine. Even if you just have a label taped to it, we’ll return it. We don’t track which cart goes out with which tee time, so if it’s blank, I have no idea whose it was. We usually just give them to the cart kids at the end of the year if they don’t have one. If it’s a Bushnell or BlueTees, it’s probably getting resold though.

If it’s been there for months it’s fair game tbh, the amount of stuff that gets left behind is crazy and there’s only so much space to leave it. A lot of courses will start selling clubs that have been there for a while in the pro shop or will have an annual sale of all the stuff left behind.

Looks like someone needs to be fired ASAP. Either theft from the Pro Shop or from customers or both.

Perks of working at a golf course.
@Jordan
I worked at 2 before and never had this perk cause I wasn’t a thief or a trust fund baby.

If it sits there for over a year I’m taking it. Sorry.

What type of rich-ass club has a dozen rangefinders in the lost-and-found for over a year?
My humble-muni pea-sized brain can’t comprehend this situation.
