Some photos out of Augusta National after Helene 😢

I can understand why. Their bunker sand is a proprietary blend not allowed at other courses. For all they knew, that spectator could’ve been trying to steal a sample.

That’s the most ‘The Masters’ thing I have ever heard.

Do you have a source on this? I’m pretty sure Mount Mitchell GC uses the same SP55 sand.

@Sky
Only source is word-of-mouth through the industry. A greens consultant I work with has done jobs for Augusta National.

I love the Masters but can’t bring myself to care about damage to a golf course, considering the larger context.

It makes me sad to see something so beautiful get wrecked, but fortunately they can rebuild. 99.9% of others can’t say that. It’s tragic all around.

@Avery
People losing everything is tragic. Augusta National getting damaged just feels like a bummer.

Agreed. It’s comprised of several of the wealthiest and most influential people on the planet—the course will be fine.

Yeah, I love the Masters but kinda despise Augusta National. It’s super elitist and has a history of banning POC and women. To me, it’s what’s wrong with golf. Not that I’m glad they had damage, but I really don’t care when others have lost everything.

Yet you felt the need to comment. Interesting.

Interesting. Not really.

The only brutal part is they’ll have this all cleaned up before some still have no power or have lost loved ones.

That was over two weeks ago. It’s likely already cleaned up.

Looks like a lot of trees had compromised root systems. At least the high-risk trees are down now.

I’ve heard they water so frequently that their roots don’t grow deep, which makes them more susceptible to falling. Augusta doesn’t really mind, as long as it doesn’t kill someone.

Is that you KVV?

They will have it fixed up in no time.

I’m sorry, but I can’t feel bad for a golf course with a $250,000 initiation fee and $10,000 annual fee. They have plenty of money for repairs. Some people lost everything because of these storms. Let’s not forget them.

Next April, you won’t notice a thing. They spend a lot for that week; this will be an inconvenience to the club. They’ll easily raise funds to fix it.

Might finally start looking like Bobby Jones intended.

Still better than my local Muni.
