Should You Get a Carry Bag with or without a Stand

For players who mostly walk, would you suggest a carry bag with or without legs?

I’ve always used a stand bag, but is the lighter weight of a carry-only bag better? How much of a hassle is laying the bag down every time?

I walk almost all the time, and I always prefer a stand bag.

I have a smaller Sunday bag without a stand that I use in the offseason when I only carry 5-6 clubs, and I find it really annoying that it doesn’t have a stand.

I’ve only walked a couple of times with a bag that doesn’t have a stand. It was annoying. I recommend getting a stand bag.

I’d avoid the Jones bag. I’ve had two fail just after warranty and all they offer is a 50% discount. Having to buy a bag every 13-14 months, even with a discount, is frustrating.

I love Jones bags, but coming from Ping, they are a huge step down. I bought my Trouper two years ago and it was the worst decision I’ve made in my golf life.

@Drew
This happened to me too. They offered a 50% discount, and I replied, ‘My last bag I bought with your 50% discount.’

They refunded me in four days.

@Drew
Do you still have the zipper issue bag? I just had my zipper disconnect from one side, and I thought it was ruined, but I used needle pliers to pry open the slider, and it worked perfectly. It only took me two minutes and I’m not handy.

I like my Jones Trouper bag for the looks, but the straps weren’t great (they redesigned them), the legs feel flimsy, and the material isn’t very durable. All three have been updated, but I wouldn’t use it as my everyday bag. I use a push cart now, so it’s not a big deal for me.

I’d suggest the TaylorMade stand bag, which is great, as well as Vessel or SunMountain. The Titleist bags look nice too, but I’ve never used one.

Looks like I’ll go with a stand bag :joy:

Jones bags seem to be made of high-quality materials, and 275 USD is pretty standard for stand bags now. I’ve seen two new Jones bags and a new Titleist bag break down this year.

I think stand bags take a lot of wear and tear from slippery surfaces, uneven ground, and the fact they get dragged around for 18 holes every time. Being lighter, they’re a bit more fragile too.

In my 20 years of golfing and carrying, the best stand bags I’ve found are the current Ping Hoofer Lite and Craz-e Lite. They are comfortable, light, well-equipped, and long-lasting.

I have the Jones Rover, and as a walker, you’ll really like it. It’s super light, even with the legs. You’ll save your back from a bag without a stand.

@Ashby
I’ve been looking at the Rover. I love how it looks, but it bothers me that it doesn’t have a handle on top for when you’re switching from carrying to setting it down like most modern bags do. Do you miss that top handle?

If you’re considering Jones, it’s probably worth waiting for Black Friday deals.

I think the only reason to skip the stand is for a cart-only or caddy-only bag.

I carry every round and tried a carry bag without a stand for two rounds and hated it! I sold it immediately and went back to my Ping Hoofer Lite stand bag.

I have both, and the stand bag is way better.

I’d stay away from Jones. I had mine rip at the strap after carrying for a little over a year, and they did nothing. They said it was a couple of months out of warranty and that I’d need to buy another.

I don’t understand why anyone would get a carry bag without a stand. Who is that for?
