Rookies Aldrich Potgieter and Campbell Head to Sudden-Death Playoff at Mexico Open

The Mexico Open at VidantaWorld is heading to a sudden-death playoff after rookies Aldrich Potgieter and Brian Campbell finished tied at 20-under through 72 holes at Vidanta Vallarta in Vallarta, Mexico.

The playoff will follow a rotation of holes 18, 18, and then 17, 18 if necessary. The par-5 18th, measuring 540 yards, offers a reachable green in two, while the 202-yard par-3 17th is protected by a pond on the left.

Potgieter, who led after 54 holes at 20-under, shot an even-par 71 in the final round, while Campbell carded a 1-under 70. Both players, graduates of the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour, are vying for their first PGA TOUR victory.

I saw that! Potgieter has such a strong game, but Campbell is super consistent too. Should be fun to watch!

Right? I can’t believe they both made it to the playoff… so nerve-wracking! Who do you think will win?

IDK, but I think experience might help Campbell here. He’s faced tough situations before.

@Tyler
True! I’ve been following him since his Korn Ferry days. Glad he’s having a good run now!

@Tyler
What’s Korn Ferry? I haven’t heard of it before.

Oh, it’s basically a lower tour for players trying to make it to the PGA TOUR. Like a stepping stone.

Super pumped for this! Potgieter becoming the youngest winner last year gives me hope for new talents in golf.

Totally! It’s refreshing to see young players making waves. How about that par-5 18th hole?

@Drew
Yeah, it’s crazy they can reach in two. High-risk shots are the best, lol.

Can’t believe this is the first playoff since the Mexico Open became a PGA event! How time flies…

I know, right? I’m hoping they keep the playoffs coming every year!

Did anyone else catch how the weather’s been for this tournament? It looked pretty nice.

Yeah, perfect conditions must be helping with all those low scores! Fingers crossed for an epic finish.
