Putter Shaft Extension

I have a 34" Bettinardi putter that I love, and I’m switching to a Golf Pride SNSR grip because it feels great.

I also want to make the putter 35" long. Should I buy a new shaft or get a shaft extension?

Any recommendations?

For your Bettinardi putter, shaft extensions are typically less expensive than purchasing a brand-new shaft.

Here’s an explanation for that:

  1. Extension: Less expensive, but may have a minor impact on putter feel.
  2. New Shaft: More expensive, but keeps the putter’s original feel and balance.
    Suggestion:

Think about how important feeling is to you and how much you can afford. A shaft extension can be a suitable choice if a small feel difference is not too bothersome. But if feels is crucial, it might be worth investing in a new shaft.

What You should do:

Speak with a club fitter to make sure the extension—if you decide to use one—is fitted correctly and preserves swing weight.

You want to extend your favourite 34" Bettinardi putter to 35" and add a comfortable Golf Pride SNSR grip. There are two options for achieving this: purchase a new, longer shaft or use a shaft extension.

Getting a new shaft costs more, but it provides greater balance for the extra length, allowing you to putt more consistently. You’ll also have more options for weight, elasticity, and material to achieve the ideal feel. The disadvantage is that it is expensive and may require professional installation.

Shaft extensions are less expensive and easy to apply on yourself. However, they may disrupt the putter’s balance and make it seem less smooth. You may need to put more weights to the bottom to correct this.

If you’re on a tight budget and are satisfied with the feel of your present putter, an extension may be sufficient. However, if you’re serious about improving your putting, a fresh, fitted shaft will provide you with the best feel and outcomes.

No matter what you choose, make sure the new grip and shaft/extension retain the putter head at the proper angles. This angle is necessary for the ball to roll straight. Ideally, you may consult with a professional to assist you select the best replacement shaft for your putting style.
