Practicing Golf in the UK

Hey guys, :us::golf: I’m from the US and relocating to the UK soon. I love golfing and want to keep up my practice. In the US, you can usually just show up at public courses and use the practice greens for free, while the driving range costs a bit. Is it the same in the UK? Can I just head to a public course and use the putting green, or do you need to be a member or pay a fee?

Thanks! :pray::man_golfing:

It depends on the club. Larger clubs might be more lenient, but smaller, member-focused clubs could be stricter.

Where are you moving to in the UK?

South east of London. About thirty minutes away.

So if I go to a larger public course and putt for an hour, no one will notice? Is it also true that most courses do not provide ranges?

I had the same concerns when I relocated to the UK. I found that while some public courses in the UK do allow you to use the practice greens for free, many require a small fee or membership. Driving ranges are similar to the US, where you pay for a bucket of balls. It’s best to check with each course individually, as policies can vary. Joining a local golf club can offer more consistent access and benefits, but you can definitely find options for casual practice without a full membership.
