I once made the mistake to hit my woods with frozen range balls as it was -10 degrees Celsius for a couple of days. After a couple of hits, I had a cut through the face. Bless Callaway golf - their customer service replaced it for 0 bucks :man_shrugging::sweat_smile:

@Cai
Dude! Glad that they replaced it for you. I’ve heard of metal faces cracking in the cold. Luckily someone warned me about that before learning the hard way.

However, once the temp was below freezing, I was hitting some old Ben Hogan irons that I had left in my trunk overnight. After a few hits, the clubhead completely flew off in the middle of my backswing, leaving me holding nothing but the shaft in my hands! I guess the cold can make 20-year-old epoxy really brittle. Who would’ve thunk it! The range owner told me he usually sees that happen 4-5 times every winter. Now I always keep my clubs inside!

We all gonna breeze by “but the shaft in my hand!” part of this comment?

Is that not how you play?

I stay with my shaft in my hands. :wink:

Yeah clubs inside is a must, not only with the woods. I never thought they’d replace it but my local vendor said it’s only 2 years old and they don’t ask out of fear of bad press. Apparently, those heads don’t cost too much to make - not calling it a throwaway - but their refund policy, at least in Germany, is pretty loose :skull:

At what temperature do y’all stop hitting range balls with your driver?

It seems like for me, that around 44 degrees in the PNW is when I keep my driver and woods in the bag at the range.

About the same for me! Usually anything below 40°F and I don’t want to risk cracking the face. I just rotate through my irons when it’s this cold out. Even numbered irons on even days, odd numbered irons on odd days.

@Brice
In my unheated garage in Wisconsin, I’d hit driver at -10°F… But I kept the balls and clubs inside the house when stored.

By the magic of buying used (TaylorMade Burner is my jam) I do not fear the cold. Let the crisp air ring with my titanium face!

When I would go to the range in the winter, I went a few times when it was in the 20s and hit every club like normal. I’ve never had an issue.

I mean, the ranges are closed, but the simulator next to work is always available

That range broke into my grandpa’s basement and stole all the golf balls.

Best range ever. Once I came across an old Titleist Balata 100. Thought it would be dead given that the rubber bands are known to get brittle and break over time, but it flew right off the club. Go figure.
