How long have you been playing? It took me a while to break 100, but when I did, I shot a 90. I had only been taking golf seriously for two years then.
Keep grinding.
Heck yeah! I’m at two years of taking it seriously too. My best score is 53 through 9. My best 18 was 111, I think.

I’d be curious to know how you ended up with a 91 with a best score of 53; that’s a huge difference. Does the app give you a handicap estimate?

Is it? Oof. And yes, that’s the worst I remember. Multiple 53s and several in the 50s. My average has gone up over the last year and a half, though. After two years of playing seriously, I should probably get lessons now.

Handicap says 45.2.

Hit the range until you can make good contact and know your distances. If it’s your short game that needs work, try hitting the pitch and putt. That’s a lot of shots to take. Sorry to be blunt.

I’m sure this varies for each golfer, but what’s a good amount to practice at the range? I’m not a range fiend, but I’m a semi-regular, and I’ve been serious about golf for a couple of years. I enjoy the range, but I’d lose my mind if I couldn’t hit the course sometimes.

How are you practicing? Are you filming your swing? Trying different swing thoughts?
If you’re serious, consider a few lessons.

Definitely thinking about lessons. I record my swings, have people watch, and focus on narrowing down to 1-3 thoughts. Currently reading Ben Hogan’s book.

Slowing down will definitely help, as others mentioned. If you can play quickly and well, that’s a bonus. I walked and carried the other day and played 18 in 1:56.

Dang, kudos. Sounds like a good workout.

Thank you. It wasn’t too bad. It was a Monday, and the group in front of me let me go out first. I had the whole course to myself. I actually finished 18 before they finished 9.

Genuine question: how? Are you trying to play as fast as possible?
If I rush, I can do 9 in under 90 minutes (walking and shooting around 45), but it feels like I’m losing enjoyment by rushing. How do you cut an extra 30 minutes off that?

I wasn’t trying to play as fast as I can. I’m naturally a fast player. I hit the ball well that day, hitting every fairway and many of the greens. It’s easier to play faster when there’s no one in front of you.

The trick is a good range session right before.
@SarahPutter
I’d stop keeping score until you can do it consistently on the course or stop chunking half your shots. It’s not helping you.

I appreciate the thought, but I enjoy keeping score. Watching my scores go from 63 to 59 to 56 is really cool. With blow-up rounds like this, my score becomes more of a curiosity, but I enjoy that too because a good round feels even better.
@SarahPutter
91 shots through nine holes in an hour and seven minutes? I’m not even mad; I’m impressed.
