Because you said you’re curious what others would say…I say hitting an 8i 130 yards because your equipment is FIFTY YEARS OLD is asinine.
I love Ping eyes as much as anyone. Most iconic irons ever made.

Lofts are much more agressive with modern irons, its asinine to compare distances at that point. Many older 8 irons are like PWs in modern bags
@SebWhiteBitok
Pretty much. My g425s have insane distance. People act like I’m hulk with those thing because I hit 7i 175-180 but the lofts are probably 10-15 year old sets 5i. Just easy to hit. Ping for life
@SebWhiteBitok
Lofts have little to do with it. In fact I bet if you hit a new club and that same number club on trackman the new club is going to have a much higher apex and better descent angle than your old club.
@Yvonne
Probably - but this old dude does hit these 50yo Karstens pretty freakin’ high (but not far, as we have established).
@Chloe
OG Eye2s hold up compared to modern irons. Slightly less spin and distance, but it’s not by much
@Chloe
Is that a bad distance? I think I hit my 8 only 140ish

For an iron that old, the loft is probably similar to a pitching wedge of modern irons
So he’s longer than you but probably leaves a lot on the table in terms of distance
@THEODORE
I don’t know if it’s purely loft. I play a P7MB/MC combo set, which have traditional lofts (34° 7i), and 8i is my 165 club.
@Lilnim
Guess it has always been different between manufacturers, but I was always taught that 48-50° PW were “traditional loft”. Know MP-14’s were 50° and MP-29’s were 48. Not trying to be pedantic, but that’s a possible full club difference.
