The members’ kids loved seeing me get into the picker. Target practice and getting to annoy your teammate all in one go. You definitely need a door, bro! Golf balls hurt at any speed.
Yes, they were already hitting the caged side; it sounds like a bullet .
Did that job, had random days like this where something broke, leaving an unsafe gap. I just drove in directions the open side wasn’t exposed and would redirect on the way back of the range. Wasn’t as efficient, wasn’t as safe as possible, but I wasn’t taking a ball to the dome.
Depends on where you are. Here in South Carolina, where they DGAF about safety whatsoever, you will routinely see maintenance and grounds crew working directly in line with your shot with no concern of getting hit and no helmet or any other type of safety equipment on. It’s almost as if they are asking/hoping to get hit in some of the more egregious situations.
@Arie
Here in SoCal, the greenskeepers will move to the side and watch you hit from the tee box. I had that happen last weekend, and I’ve never felt so much pressure in my life. I don’t know how some of y’all play with a caddie at nice resorts. Thankfully, I hit my best drive all day, and they ended up clapping for me, but the thought of slicing or shanking it into the ground had me so nervous.
Like, do you think you’ll get hit or fall out of it? If it’s getting hit, then I’d say they either need a door on it or to close the range while you pick (my usual range does this). If you think you’ll fall out, I’d ask for a seat belt to be installed before the door due to the heat in summer (unless it’s got AC, then why not both a door and belt?). If you get along with your boss, then talk to them about it. If not, report directly to OSHA and let them sort it.
@Chen
Both. I can see if I can negotiate something. I honestly think nothing will be done since our actual picker has been out of commission for an unknown reason since December. I plan to leave in April anyway after I work the Masters; I’m tired of this job .

Then I’d just report them and let it get sorted by the next dude. Could always quit pre-Masters without warning. Be a pain in the ass.
Only problem is I’m in a work-based learning program, and they have to do end-of-year evaluations . Hopefully, it’ll be finished by April, and I can get the hell out of there. I’m running this by my coordinator, though, to see if I can just leave and go back to my previous job (which was at the school).
