I was on the local public course and on the 6th hole there are three big oak trees you have to hit between (the course can’t chop them down). I hit my drive nice, but I’m not skilled enough to fit that gap. I couldn’t see where the ball fell after hitting the tree, but there’s a little stream underneath, so I was worried. I walked down from the tee and looked for my ball under the tree. A breeze came along and my ball dropped, hitting my shoulder!

You’re good. Since 2019 there is no penalty for a ball hitting you or your gear
Is that really true
Yes. Check Rule 11.1.
a. No Penalty to Any Player
If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or something from outside:
• There is no penalty to any player.
• This applies even if the ball hits the player, their opponent, or any other player or their caddies or gear.
Exception – Ball Played on Putting Green in Stroke Play: If the player’s ball in motion hits another ball that is still on the putting green and both balls were on the putting green before the stroke, the player gets a penalty (two penalty strokes).
@Marlow
Wow! I appreciate you sharing this. I caddied for a guy at a qualifier 2 years back and an errant shot went toward his bag and he almost hurt himself diving to move it. The whole group, who are all really good players, didn’t know that the rule changed
@Marlow
We used to joke about this in the weekly men’s league. If we had chips near the green I’d stand on the other side of the hole as a backstop in case anyone thinned it. In theory, it would hit me and stay on the green, helping the team. It never happened until one time a shot almost hit me from just 15 yards out
@Shannon
I have a friend who used to jokingly park his cart directly across from wherever he was chipping from (on the path, he’s not completely crazy) for this reason. He stopped after hitting one right into the wheel and knocking off the hubcap. The hubcap ended up closer to the hole than the ball haha (to be fair, the ball would have been in the next county, so I guess it worked)

Yes, but a ball at rest that moves needs to be replaced
Only if it is known or almost certain that it was moved by something other than natural forces. The wind moving your ball is a natural force, so it doesn’t need to be replaced. Rule 9.2 and 9.3

I hit myself with a low screamer that hit the senior tee markers and the ball shot back at me
My brother hit a wood yard marker about 10 yards in front of him and opened a cut above his eye. Blood everywhere; the cart looked like a murder scene. He got stitches and came back to finish his round

I played with a friend who drove into a tree trunk and it bounced right back at us. We all had to duck. It’s rare to see a drive go minus 30 yards. Damn trees
