I finally got comfy with my 3 wood

Used to dread having this thing in my hands, and now it’s one of my favorite clubs. There is something just so satisfying about hitting a decent shot with this club.
I realized I needed this to be a reliable tool in my arsenal to have any decent birdie looks for most Par 5s, given I typically only get about 265 yards MAX with my driver.

I’ve realized figuring out anything in golf is just a cycle.

  • Figure out driver

  • Figure out chipping, retire the driver because it’s now unhittable

  • Figure out 3 wood, forget everything else including why I golf

  • Finally put a decent round together, love golf

Repeat

I accidentally figured out chipping and leave people astonished when I hit a 25-foot high shot for 10 yards and put it 6 feet from the pin with my 58-degree.

Always funny to see them try to understand how I’m able to keep it so short with a full swing.

Completely dialed in right up until the moment you realize that you’re on track for your personal best with just 4 holes left.

Nothing guarantees a fairway wood worm-burner more than this.

And using a mat. But if you feel this way, I hope you’re right.

This has become my typical 3 Wood shot shape/distance since my last three rounds, just got it on film at the range and like it lol.

I always take range results with a grain of salt until they prove to be replicable consistently on a course.

I get it, I was just messing around. Good luck, happy to see you feel as though you’ve progressed and hopefully it translates. I’m struggling in some areas as well and as a result, I’ve kind of stopped going to the range on “Mat Days” and use that time to chip and putt.

I can typically tell if I hit a good shot based on the feel, like before I even look away from the impact.

It’s not very difficult for me to recognize when the mat’s forgiveness helped me or not, but I get where you’re coming from.

I believe going through the motions and keeping the muscle memory up is just as helpful.

You still have several glaring issues with this swing. I won’t mention them because if it’s working for you, don’t change anything.

By all means, do tell, I’m always open to improvement.

Massively inside takeaway, improper weight shift, and humping the ball at least.

They are correct though.

Ball flight and consistency are what matters. Don’t mess with it just for the sake of it.

My problem with my swing is not my accuracy. I’m shockingly consistent with my drives and 3W. My only complaint is I can’t seem to carry further than 210-220 at the range no matter how much I try to tweak small stuff.

Do you think I need to start strength training?

I think explosive strength training seems worthwhile no matter what.

Plyometrics, medicine ball, cable machine stuff. Why not?

Playing a draw usually gets a bit more distance. But 265 isn’t too bad; it depends on age and genetics too.

I’m 24. I want to play golf at a high level one day, need at least 285 consistently. 265 is a great drive for me.

Guessing your miss is a slice? Inside takeaway and it gets across the line at the top of the backswing leading to a slight out-to-in path. The lead wrist is cupped at the top and you crowd the impact zone as you are stood too upright and early extend. You seem to have squared the face well on this shot, but how’s the consistency?

Believe it or not, I’m extremely consistent with this shot shape for both my 3 wood and driver. There’s an occasional slice if I’m not focusing, but that’s maybe once a round if even. I have about 7 other videos of this exact shot shape ending center on target like this one.

Don’t get me wrong, my swing is absolutely a work in progress, but I’m managing to get about 215-220 yards with my 3W decently on target right now, so I’m introducing improvements slowly but surely to avoid any massive change in consistency.
