Hey y’all. Thank you for all the help with my iron swing. I took most of your advice and played in shorter socks.
This is a local Par 3 course (62 PAR). I shot an 86! My best score here yet.
Did not use driver, only 5 iron off the tee. I played a lot of course management.
After reading comments, I noticed how often I 3-putted, and I also duffed easy chips and bladed a few across the green.
I need to work on my short game and putting more! Still only hit the driver pure 1 of 5 times, mostly slice, sometimes I overcorrect with a hook or line drive.
So where should I start with my wedge game? I have had success with the “old man swing” where I take the club slightly back and wrist whip it through.
Weight on your front foot is super important. The only way I learned how to use the bounce was by chipping a lot of shots at a cone 25 - 50 - 75 yards.

Congrats! First time breaking 100 on the front 9 is exciting!

Your head dips down like 6 inches on your takeaway. Now, not only do you have to hit a ball with a crooked stick, but you also have to return your head and posture to the same position at the same time. Don’t do that; keep your head still.

Watch your head; it dips down a lot. Now extrapolate that to what it does to your point of contact.

For the swing: you are dipping your head a ton. It should not move or barely move. This keeps you stable and consistent.
Your old man swing was probably pretty close to correct. Chipping is a very simple movement. You just want to have a repeatable motion; power does not matter.
To hack it on the course now: move the ball back until you basically can’t hit it fat. Do that while learning how to chip the right way.

You have to stop falling forward. Get your weight balanced and finish on your front left heel. I assume you probably do this on all your swings, and it’s going to kill you. Fix this first. Take 1000 swings where your only thought is ending on your left heel without standing up.

You are falling over your toes. It starts to happen in the takeaway—around shaft parallel, the tilt starts. Practice feeling balanced at the top of your backswing, in short approaches, and in full swings. Then practice feeling balanced in the finish. You really can’t have repeatable contact with such poor balance.

The socks were fine; they were just the wrong color and too short. Long socks are in; ankle socks are like dad socks with white new balances.

Teach me the way of the long socks. What color and what color shorts?
