Found a Great Wedge After Someone Found a Driver at the Thrift Store

I’m going to get myself into so much trouble with this thing :rofl: Anyone know what year it’s from, can’t find much on it.

Place your bets on what the next thrift store find will be in this chain

I almost got a 3-wood but I wasn’t about to spend $30 at a Goodwill for just one item lmao

I’d guess it’s from around 2005. The grooves look nice and healthy. This thing hasn’t been used much. Hope you know how to handle a low bounce 60, or it might humble you.

That’s a Vokey 200 series from 1999. It looks immaculate, like it’s hardly been played.

You’re worried about a $12 wedge? What’s up with that?

It’s nonconforming (illegal). It’s pre-2006. There was a groove rollback in 2011, and a few models from earlier were grandfathered in. This isn’t allowed for tournament play or for posting a score for your handicap.

It’s like using an aluminum bat from the 90s.

I need to look for one of these. I lost mine on a course in Maryland that belonged to my late dad, and I’m still mad I left it. The course never found it.

Mine slipped out of my hand a couple of weeks ago during rain over a par 3 pond and landed right in the middle of it lol. I feel your pain.

@Lex
Does anyone know what year this one is from? Mine was exactly like this one with the gold and red lines. I’d love to find a used one to buy, it looks like 2009 had green in it.

I’d guess mid-2000s. I searched ‘260-04 BV Vokey 60 wedge’ on Google and found a bunch of matching wedges on eBay. Good luck!

@Spence
Thanks, I appreciate that!

It’s from 2006. It’s in the 200 series, just before the SM (Spin Milled) lines were introduced.

Unfortunately, if you want to follow the rules, especially for tournament play, this wedge is nonconforming (illegal). The 2011 SM4 CC (Condition of Conformity) is the first year after the groove change that is legal. Everything after then is okay. Before 2011, I’d need to reread the rules. I think wedges from 2007 to 2010 were grandfathered in.

Since I played a lot of tournament golf, we all had to switch after the groove rollback. Most 200 series grooves are worn out after 19 years. This one looks fantastic though. Just a heads up on the legality. Technically, you can’t even post a score for handicap with it. If it’s seen in a tournament, it’s instant disqualification, maybe even a suspension from the league or association.

FINALLY!!

Someone with wedge pics that must include at least one club face pic. Nice find, OP!!

That looks like it’s from before the groove change, so it likely won’t be legal for tournaments if you do that sort of thing.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I have this same 60-degree wedge and it is indeed not legal for tournament play. I have a ‘legal’ 60 I can use if I need to though.

Very true. I had to switch when that rule changed in 2011.
