14.5 handicap, playing about 7 years. Not sure what to be more happy about - breaking 90 for the first time (shot 86 today) or keeping the same ball all round. I’m a big hitter so any errant shot can end up deep in the woods. A while back I began properly focusing on lessons for my swing and have dropped from a 36+ handicap to under within around 12 months, and not losing 5 balls a round has massively helped this.
How are you a 14.5 handicap and just now broke 90? No hate, genuinely curious.
@Jonas
The “cap” is dynamic though. It’s net double, not just double. So at a 14.5, almost every hole can end up with a triple. People who routinely quad and get the benefit of a net double aren’t making many pars.

As for how the system works - I play on a course with one of the highest slope ratings in the country, so that’s factored into my handicap records. I consistently shoot low 90s, but today everything clicked: 9 pars and 1 birdie (awful scoring on the other holes but no lost balls).

Playing from the wrong tees can also mess with the cap. Without regard to slope, if he plays from the tees rated 77 but scores a 91, that’s a 14 differential. He might just be playing really tough courses.
@Bryn
Gotcha, thank you!
@Bryn
It’s one of the hardest courses in the country based on slope rating. I usually shoot lower 90s.
Meanwhile, I recently lost a golf ball at the golf sim… not even lying.
Nice that you have an obligatory scuff mark on the ball.
Pretty work.
Keeping the same ball is always an accomplishment, at least for me.
Almost made it the whole day without losing a ball. Lost it around 15, but I was able to scoop up about 7 Pro V1s in the water with my ball retriever, so it all worked out.
