After nearly six years with my Srixon Z785s, I decided it was time for a change and went for an iron fitting back in early December.
The final decision came down to the Titleist T100s and the 2024 P770s. Both performed almost identically on center strikes according to the TrackMan data, but the P770s stood out for being more forgiving on off-center hits.
Naturally, they arrived yesterday—right after a snowstorm here in Denver. Now, I’ll have to wait for the weather to clear up before I can finally take them out on the course.
What’s your handicap? I’m getting fitted Saturday, I’m about a 12, and I haven’t kept up with new clubs in a while, so I’m trying to do a little research before. How much was cost a factor in your choice?
I should do a WITB… I’m 100000% brand agnostic. I play whatever I hit best… Callaway driver, Cobra 3w and 5w, TM irons, Callaway wedges, Ping hybrid, Bettinardi putter.
That should be your approach (within price point reason)… come in with an open mind and be willing to hit whatever they put in your hands. That said, be honest about how it looks because that matters.
I went in with no budget. It’s been almost 6 years since my last set which I just got on eBay… since then I’ve done fittings for the driver, woods, wedges, putter… it was time for the irons to be properly fitted.
My set was 5-PW and the shaft upgrade was free from TM. They were $1200 before taxes, about $1350 out the door.
The other thing, if I had two sets to choose from that performed similarly and one is $1350 and the other is $2800, budget or not, I’m going with the cheaper set.

Awesome, that’s right around where I’m looking to spend but I’m all good going in without any real preference. Did you end up buying from the fitter or after? I’m getting fit at a Club Champion and heard they mark up a decent amount.

Those are beautiful. Where did you get fitted? How was the experience? I’m planning to get an iron fitting this year.
So I have a buddy back in CA who is a senior fitter at the PGA Superstore “Studio”… I connected with him and he recommended Spencer at the Westminster PGA Studio.
The experience was awesome.
We tried 5-6 heads that were similar to my old gamers; Callaway Apex Pro, Ping i230, T100, ZX7 Mark 2… threw them on a similar shaft and I just gave him feedback…
Quickly identified the best looking (at address), best feeling, and luckily Trackman supported it. Then we went through a few different shafts.
I should have noted I had some very unique shafts on the Srixon—True Temper 7.0 Rifle Parallel shafts. Super heavy, super stiff and polar opposite of what we landed on at the end: Project X 6.0 IO.
Went back and forth with the same shaft and the best heads and chose the winner.
@Noor
How do you like the shaft? I have a set of Mizunos coming in with the IO in 6.0 - I’ve been playing the Modus 105s for a while but wanted to try something different.

They felt better than everything else I tried. I was a little worried about them being so light at only 110g but they outperformed everything else by far.
I’ve got a pretty smooth transition and was swinging the 7i about 88 mph, and they were awesome. I could really tell where the head was throughout the entire swing.
@Jace
The most interesting thing to me was just how small or compact (heel to toe) the heads look.
I guess the Z785s are a very long head because these heads look tiny. I can’t wait to hit them… might have to go to a simulator today because it’s snowing again!
@Noor
Yeah, they are cavity-back sized at address, which I love. Feel very easy to swing and work for something that still has some forgiveness/distance. My old game improvement irons feel like sledgehammers compared to these.
