Finally practiced semi-intelligently

My local course has a great chipping practice area with two sand traps, a fairway-like surface, and plenty of rough. There’s also a putting area for up to 50-foot putts, and it’s all free. Today was my first time using it after two months of just going to the driving range. I usually hit a few iron shots and then spend most of my time on the driver. Now, I’m focusing on getting good with wedges first.

I practiced chipping with a 54, 56, and 58 for 40 minutes and spent another 30 minutes putting. Some of my chips need work, but I holed one from about 20 yards, which was pretty cool. I also made a ~25-foot putt and several 10-footers, so I was happy with my putting. I seem to be better with a Newport-style putter compared to a mallet.

Interestingly, my right shoulder and the right side of my neck are a bit stiff and sore. Is this normal after practicing the short game for a while, given that I’m squeezing my triceps and staying in position for a good part of the practice?

I’m hoping to practice for an hour or two daily and maybe, just maybe, get decent at the game in a year. :golf::man_golfing:

Sounds amazing. Wishing you all the best as you journey towards bettering your game.

Intelligent people often feel less confident because they realize how much they don’t know. They question things deeply, worry about possibilities, and take time to think before responding. They value input from others and avoid quick answers. While this thoughtfulness is a strength, it can also make them feel burdened.
