Finally broke 90 for the first time a couple weeks ago and got past my mental block

Just sharing a personal win

I was stuck scoring 90, 91, and 92 for a month. Every time I got close, I messed it up. There were at least 4 times when I just needed a couple double bogeys to finish, and I blew it! My golf has been really good overall, but I had some big mistakes, especially at my home club.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago I broke 90 and shot an 88. Since then, I’ve shot 88, 87, 89, and today, 84!

On the last couple holes, I felt a bit nervous when I saw my score for the back 9.

Getting through that mental block has really helped me a lot. I’m super happy with my 84 on a tough course.

And I made it through 18 holes without losing a ball!

My handicap has gone down 5 shots this year.

I really love golf!

Awesome job, well done

Thanks, dude

Now you know you can do it. Knowing is important. That and short game.

Great round! Clean up that front side and you could be looking at 70s, my golfing friend!

Thanks, mate. My putting has improved a lot, but I need to work on my chipping and upgrade my wedges.

I usually do better on the front 9 and worse on the back 9, so here’s to hoping I can put both together.

Breaking 90 at Ranches is an achievement by itself. I did it a while ago too, so I know how impressive that is.

I’m happy to see someone else here who has played the course! It’s tough. I’m a member there, so I know it well! Not losing a ball feels like a bigger achievement there for me.

@Steele
I’ve played it enough to know it well, but I still find it challenging. Not losing a ball is impressive due to how tight the course is.

It’s a great course and a real test. The best part is when you play other courses, the fairways seem super wide!

@Steele
That 13, 14, 15 section can really challenge your score, I usually struggle on those holes.

I’ve had bad holes on 14 so many times recently. I shot the same score on that hole twice! So, I was really happy to get through that stretch okay.

Well done! Can you share your secrets?

I was close to breaking 90 last year and I played a round on Dec 31 and shot 92. My tee shots were my best ever; I didn’t lose a ball until hole 15, but couldn’t keep my game together after that.

@Mika
My biggest secret is that I’m playing a lot of golf right now

I consistently play two or three full rounds a week and squeeze in a couple of 30-minute sessions at the range when I can.

I started playing about 18 months ago, so I’m trying to make up for lost time.
