Does the Perfect Putting practice mat make sense?

I got this as a Christmas gift and was excited because it had good reviews. (if you haven’t seen it: Perfect Practice Putting Mat | Perfect Practice).

However, there’s a steep ramp at the end to help with pacing and ball return. This means you need extra power to get the ball into the hole, and if you miss, the ball rolls all the way back. You can see this by dropping a ball from the hole’s height—it rolls the entire length of the mat.

What’s the point of a putting mat that makes you use 8+ feet of power for a 4-foot putt? The pace training is terrible because you need to hit a 4-footer like it’s a 12-foot putt. I use it to help with alignment but stopped aiming for the hole due to the unrealistic pacing.

The Perfect Practice Putting Mat has benefits, especially for alignment training, but its design with a steep ramp requires more power for short putts, leading to unrealistic pacing. This can affect your distance control. Therefore, while it can be useful for working on alignment, it is not ideal for practicing putt pacing accurately.

I’ve only had mine for a few months, but I’m loving it. Living in Wisconsin, I haven’t had the chance to test it out on a real course yet, though.

Usually, I tend to come up short on my putts. The incline on this mat might help me fix that.

I’m getting better at hitting on the correct line. So maybe it’ll take a couple of sessions on the practice green to learn that 8 feet on the mat equals 11 feet on the green. Not a big deal. I’ve had enough strokes to work through my mechanical issues.

Even if you live in a warm climate and have easy access to a course during the winter, it’s still pretty neat to be able to practice and only spend 5 or 10 minutes doing it.

Some users say it lays flat and rolls true, while others report the ball veers off randomly. The mat isn’t slanted properly, causing the ball to not roll straight, and some mention the mat’s end doesn’t stay down.

Yes, it does! It helps improve your putting skills indoors.
