Do you pay attention when your club hits the ball

@Parker
I’m really curious about this too

If only topping the ball was as simple as just pulling your head haha

I’ve heard that if you hit fat shots, all you need to do is pull your head

I thought I should keep my head still. When I worry about a shot, I tend to cheat and look up early to see where the ball is going. This makes me come out of my swing and usually leads to a push fade. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my ball hit the club, but I see the ball flying away

Just keep your head down and let your right shoulder turn it. That’s what my grandpa always said

When I’m hitting well, yes I do

You can let your head move a little, but keeping your eye on the ball until your club hits it helps you hit better and straighter than looking away before contact. That’s just common sense. You wouldn’t hammer a nail without looking at it first. You wouldn’t serve in tennis and not look at the ball while hitting it. You wouldn’t take a free kick in soccer and look away before kicking. In open play, like in tennis or soccer, you’re reacting to a moving object, which makes it different. But in situations like free kicks or golf shots, you’ll do better keeping your eye on the ball. You might hit great shots without doing it, but overall, you’ll likely do better if you focus

Here’s a bunch of pro tennis players who aren’t looking at the ball when they serve. Some are watching it with their side vision, some aren’t looking at all and are focused on the target

I keep my eyes on the ball until impact. I’ve tried keeping my eyes on the ball all the way through and it didn’t work for me. I ended up with bad pain

I used to think this too. Your swing happens so fast you can’t really see it and, like others said, it stops your follow-through. Just aim and swing

It’s less about watching my club hit the ball. It’s more about keeping my spine angle and upper body stable until after impact, when the club naturally releases and my upper body comes through. It may look like I’m staring down at the ball, but that’s just a result of that

There’s nothing else to look at

I do look at the ball, but just the moment it hits. I focus more on where the club is in relation to my target line

Why did you make me think about this

Honestly, I don’t even know. I just do whatever feels natural

Keep your eyes on the ball, but focus on your target

I’ve seen pros swing and they don’t look up until a second after impact, so I try to do that

I try, but I really can’t. I’ve found that looking at a spot a few inches in front of the ball helps my swing and lets me really hit the ball

Nope. For two reasons, first, I don’t want dirt flying in my face after a bad shot and second, I have poor tracking vision and need to be looking up when the ball hits the club to see where it’s going. Even then, I only see it about 80-90% of the time
