Do you pay attention when your club hits the ball

I know this sounds silly but while working on my swing, I kept my head down until I noticed the divot and then looked up. Is this how it’s supposed to be done? I’m really confused if I’ve been swinging wrong all this time

I never take my eyes off the pin

That’s a good strategy. By the way, where did that shot land

I’m sure it didn’t go near the pin. No doubt about it

Of course it went in the cup

No. The club head moves at 100mph. For woods, I focus on a dimple or mark on the back of the ball and try to hit it hard. For irons, I pick a blade of grass in front of the ball and aim to make it disappear

@Bailey
I just can’t get the grass thing to work. It feels so awkward, and my body really wants to look at the ball so I struggle to swing properly

I was the same way. Try focusing on a dimple or a letter on the front of your ball. That really helped me

@Bailey
Absolutely agree. Someone recommended this to me, and it immediately improved my iron hits

@Bailey
I’m going to try that today

@Bailey
Hmm you might be onto something

@Bailey
Focus on something small to improve your aim

I watch my club hit the ground right behind the ball

@Laine
Right, I usually move a bit to avoid seeing the contact, but now I feel all mixed up haha

@Laine
Henrik Stenson is another great example. I hit the ball best when I see it leave the club. Using video to check yourself can help align what you think is happening with what’s actually happening

@West
It depends on your skill level, but when I struggle, I find focusing on watching the contact helps. Watching it on video often doesn’t show much difference from when I don’t focus on it, but it’s a good thought to improve my hits. Any swing thought like watching the contact or pausing at the top is usually only slightly different than normal, but it helps me get back to hitting how I want when I’m off

@Briar
Totally agree. If that thought works for you and doesn’t cause any visual issues, then that’s great! A thought that builds confidence is always valuable

I definitely don’t always see the club head or the ball throughout my swing sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad

I was playing with a friend on a long par 5. He topped 5 balls in a row at the start. After topping a 6th one, he asked, am I pulling my head? I lost it
