Course recommendations in Austin TX?

What’s up gang. Going to Austin TX for the first time ever in February and hoping to get a Sunday morning round in. Will be renting clubs and everything. Hit me with your recommendations! Here’s a picture of my favourite round of all time in Canmore Alberta.

The Hills or Barton Creek.

Forgot about this one. This is a great choice. You gotta stay at the hotel in order to golf it.

Shit you gonna get us into the cc?!

I’ll also add a lot of “private courses” you can get on if you call.

Oh really? Which ones? :eyes:

Depends on what you are looking for; some of the pricier resort courses are nice if you want to spend some coin. You will need to know someone to get on the private clubs (ACC, Westlake CC, Twin Creeks, etc). Grey Rock or Kizer are probably the best Munis in Austin. Forest Creek is a great muni north of Austin in Round Rock.

There are some great historical courses:

Riverside is the old Austin Country Club when Harvey Penick was head pro and where Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite learned to play. You can see Harvey’s old house off the green on number 4.

Lions Municipal (1924) is in the center of the city and was the first southern golf course to desegregate.

Butler Pitch and Putt has been open since the 40s and is a great time, although pace of play is very slow if you aren’t one of the first ones off.

@Finnian
This is the best recommendation IMO. Austin has strong muni courses and good country clubs, but is underwhelming in between.

You could play 36 holes at Kizer and Clay (same property).

Morris Williams is solid and the clubhouse gives you a southern feel.

If you are willing to drive a bit Star Ranch or Kissing Tree.

@Raj
Both these are :100:.

I live in the Austin area and have golfed quite a handful of courses.

All in all, you’re not going to get a great course in Austin unless you go outside of Austin. At least not for public courses. Twin Creeks is amazing for a private club.

Crystal Falls in Leander is one of the best bang for buck decent courses if you want a public course with some up and down hill shots.

My top recommendation is to travel to Lost Pines and stay at that resort and golf that course. The resort is great for the summer so you won’t be able to use the pool but the restaurants on site aren’t bad.

Horseshoe Bay is also incredible but again, you’re going to want to stay at the resort and it’s great but more built for the spring/summer time to get the full benefit out of it. I haven’t checked rates so it’s possible there’s discounted rates though.

Damn man I saw that pic and was like “I have got to head down to Austin!”

Haha, Calgary/Canmore/Banff will welcome you.

It was incredible. Was my first time in Calgary this past July and made the trip out to Canmore for a few days.

I like ShadowGlen out in Manor. Very pretty course.

Is that real or AI?

It’s real as ever! Silvertip as the others have said.

I’ve only played one Twin Creeks. It’s a gem.
