Best Putting Mat for a Beginner?

I’m trying to get better at my putting game, and I think a putting mat would be a great way to practice at home. I’ve used one of those cheap ones before, but it was terrible! The ball barely rolled. Any recommendations for a good putting mat that won’t break the bank? I’m a total beginner, so I don’t need anything fancy.

I had a Birdie Ball matt and it was excellent for practice, and I really liked having a hole for the ball to drop into. I went with a very large one and practically made a putting green out of it adding various breaks.

The one thing to be aware of is if you have pets I would not get a birdie ball. The material is similar to a pool noodle, damages easy by sharp objects, and a cat or dog would rip it up. Other than that if you take care of it though it will last, never had an issue with shoes, chipping or putting.

I like the Jade Harmony mat for a variety of reasons. I do a strenuous vinyasa practice, and this mat has been durable and has wonderful traction–no slides! It is natural/non-toxic, dries quickly, and is simple to clean after a sweaty practice. Living in a city where I walk a lot, the Jade is light enough to strap and carry without sacrificing a comfortable level of cushioning. Furthermore, it is reasonably priced and available in a range of colors.
