I have a set of these and they’re so fun to hit. These are the definition of buttery.
Nice pick up. I did the same thing and got a set of 3-PW MP-33 to mess around with. They won’t help my game but they are fun.
Whoever did those grips is kinda dialed

Great deal. Love when people get rid of stuff for absolutely nothing

Helps to have a relationship with a local golf shop by going there almost daily and spending lots more than this over the years
Does anyone know how much less forgiving the MP-20 HMB’s are than your average game improvement irons?

The HMBs are a little weird IMO. I didn’t find them to be particularly forgiving and they kind of have a weird thickness to them for how compact they are.

Not really something that can be easily answered. What do you consider an “average GI club”? The HMB’s are 5 years old and tech doesn’t really improve THAT much in that span of time. I haven’t hit them but I believe they’re effectively the predecessors of the MP 225 and now the MP245 - which is to say they’re a hollow body construction in the shape/style of Mizunos standard blades. They’ll be more forgiving than the CB or MB counterparts but probably not as much as, say, Hot Metals, AI Smoke, Qi, Wilson Dynapower etc.

Hey! I feel wildly prepared to answer this! I have HMB 4i and 5is, and mp20 6-pw. My other main set are JPX921 tours, and I play 5-p in that, but occasionally would play the HMB 5i with those, in place of the 4i (essentially, with the stronger loft, tungsten and hollow design, it gapped better than the hmb 4i, so I was playing two 5irons). I tend to hit the middle pretty often, but, the hmbs do have some juice to them when middled compared to the blade/tours. I’d say, the jpx 5i is about a 203y for me (27°), the mp20 about 200y, and hit well, the hmb can jump to 210-215y, 220 if I lean into it (@I believe 25°?) the dispersion is pretty similar, but, the longer blade length makes the HMB a little straighter. If you want more info, I’d be happy to answer any questions. And can dive into my arccos if necessary.

I played some MP67s for a couple of years. Way too much club for me but they were a blast on the good days
Have been playing MP-54s since 2015 and have no intentions of switching anytime soon. Couldn’t love them more.
I love my MP-32 set. I got them used in 2010 and they still have great feel and power.
Now get a set of mp20 mmc’s and blend them.
I’ve got set of mp5/mp15’s. If I die tomorrow bury me with them.

That was my original goal, and they had a set of MMC’s, but weren’t willing to let me split and blend them. Not too worried since I don’t plan to game them, but will keep my eye out for a 4-5/6 in the MMC for sure.
Picked up a 6-p set of these myself last winter, in great shape, and aside from worn grips (which I was planning on changing regardless) and having to change out two shafts (I think the previous owner was trying to do a pseudo one length set) they were a blast to have, and pretty easy to hit (my main set are Mizuno JPX 921 Tours, so not wildly different), plus, I randomly had a 4 & 5i MP20 HMB, so it really was perfect. You’ll surprise yourself, I think, they are easier to play than you’d expect.
@Ori
Sweet! I did find I was mostly connecting with the pw-7. In general I struggle with longer irons even on more forgiving clubs, so I’m not super worried.

This doesn’t pertain to you so sorry to reply directly, but, I was surprised to find, that when I had my club builder friend set the mp20s up for me at “standard lengths,” that apparently I’ve been fit/playing irons that were 1/2” long in my jpxs, I never looked at the build sheet when I got them, and the fitter didn’t explicitly tell me at the time, I’m taller, they fit great, but was almost hunching with the mp20s, and, the “shorter” length may actually help me control those lil beasts. Haha. What is your main set? I love the turf interaction these have, their thin soles cut through turf and help maintain speed nicely.
